Am I playing the game wrong?

yeah I feel you OP, my brother wanted to play ffxiv and go on an adventure but I told him the game is very solo until dungeons and nothing good about the open world except fates.

my brother loved ffr7 but I know he likes challenging games and likes a deep combat system.


unfortunately FFXIV combat system is deep as a puddle just pressing 1,2,3 in a rotation and combat doesn't really change much from that.


I told him the game isn't for him, and he wouldn't like it.

If you're still playing with a three button rotation after level 30, you're playing wrong. Granted, most tank and healing jobs have relatively simple rotations, but heals and/or mitigation should be thrown into the mix in those cases. Most jobs have a relatively complex rotation by level 60 that gets even more complicated as they level to 90. The nice thing about this game is that there's something for everyone. If you want a simple rotation, you can pick a simple job. If you want to go nuts weaving and double weaving between every GCD skill, there are jobs that provide that, too.

also yeah xiv isn't for everyone and it doesn't fit my needs unlike FFXI does. I would have been unsub but my brother wanted to try out the game so I'm here until my sub runs out.

anyways this game is too easy imo, want a difficult more engaging combat MMO. this ain't it
