Anyone Get to Around Level 48-49 and Just Give Up?

What'd the deal with level gating the MSQ? I'm playing this game BECAUSE I hate daily grinds (i.e., WoW), I'm was really enjoying everything: the story, the quests, the duties and then BAM! it all comes to a grinding halt. Then I hit level 47-48 (with 2 characters now) and now I'm having to find some way of getting XP through fates and levequests (only one area of which gives anything close to decent XP at level 48) and it just isn't fun. At all. Extremely disappointed. Why would you do this? Why would you make a conscious design decision to make your game boring? Is this what the rest of leveling up to 90 is going to be like?

Have you ever done levelling roulette? One run of that is probably all you need to do to reach level 49 and continue the plot. If not, then maybe Frontline PVP or Palace of the Dead, or just wait until tomorrow and run again.

Queue for it now and maybe you can get a roulette done before the daily cutoff (25 minutes from the time of posting this).

There are a lot of other ways to level like Iscah said. Palace of the dead is a great one that is repeatable and unlocks at the Carline Canopy in Gridania. But if you don't like daily/weekly grinds, I hate to tell you, but that is pretty much what you do at level cap outside of the 2 pieces of content that are usually relevant. There are other things like maps which you can do, but there is a lot of time gated grind up top, so be warned.

Also, if you haven't been doing "blue" sidequests and particularly unlocking the optional dungeons (levels 20, 35, 38, 44, 47) then that is probably the chunk of EXP that you are expected to have at this point but don't.

Also, have you been doing your hunting log? That probably accounts for at least two levels by the time you hit 50.

Can only suggest persisting with it, because it honestly is worth it even if, at times, it doesn't necessarily feel like it.

As has been asked, have you done the hunting log or your job-specific quests?

Some of the side-quests are actually pretty engaging, Fates are a decent way of gaining some EXP too, and when you reach level 50 you can queue for levelling roulette, which rewards a pretty generous chunk of EXP.

    ↑ this.
ive had a few friends start new, and I noticed the ones who didnt do the Lv44, and 47 dungeons, werent high enough in level to continue, but the people who did them, were high enough. (also, go do them right now, and you'll be high enough) the MSQ really needed to make those dungeons apart of the MSQ, to help break up the monotony of NPC clicking.

I don't know how you could possibly fall behind. The amount of EXP you get from the MSQ on top of the exp from the dungeons is more than enough to keep you several levels ahead of the MSQ. Needing to do side quests in order to keep your level up with the MSQ hasn't been a requirement in years.

Also, stop doing fates and levequests. You get more exp from side quests and doing duty finder roulettes. You'll get nearly a full level from leveling roulette alone.

The game was originally designed to account for experience gained from the main story, all side quests, completing the map and a small amount of other content of your choice such as fates, but this was changed recently for ARR and the latest expansion EW to not expect sidequests to be done.

Leveling isn't hard in this game though. Your daily leveling roulette is only going to take about 20 minutes and gives you lots of experience points and there is a first-time bonus from each guildhest if your queue works. There is a challenge log you can unlock if you have been doing your blue unlock quests. You can access the hunting log by pressing H. The dungeon closest to your level gives the most experience, excluding max level dungeons (level 50/60/70/80) which don't give much. In practice, most people are higher than the level of their MSQ either from getting distracted with other content that gives experience, doing their daily roulettes or starting on a Preferred world which doubles quest experience.

I was missing a whole level when I started the game and I had done all sidequests, so I just did roulettes. Back then, fate farming was popular so I was able to join a farm party at Northern Thanalan or Coerthas Central Highlands if I wanted. The release of Palace of the Dead (which you can unlock at level 17) destroyed fate farming because it doesn't require certain roles such as a tank or healer.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

If you only level with one class, you may hit a wall near the end of ARR but you shouldn't ever again, especially if you are doing roulettes every day.

You shouldn't be doing roulettes every day if you're only levelling one class. MSQ will give you everything you need, or close to it. Possibly you'll need to occasionally do a roulette to keep yourself slightly ahead of MSQ level, but overall it's designed for you to keep pace with it.

Admittedly I've never stuck to one class on a character to test out playing strictly MSQ from beginning to end, but that's my understanding of how it works.

You can be doing levelling roulette at level 16 as soon as you unlock Tam-Tara.
