Hi Seathasky, this 3rd party launcher looks brilliant, but I have some concerns about safety. How can I be sure, that my login credentials are not copied and used to cause harm? And how does SE deals with third party launchers? You might post this launcher link in the official forum, but how are the odds, that SE will ban players because they do not use their broken, but official launcher?
We're an open source project, all the code is available for you and the world to see. We also do this in our free time and we aren't getting paid...also our team is 3 people. So my question is this....what is Squares excuse?
You can see the code on our GitHub: https://github.com/marzent/XIV-on-Mac
We're also not doing anything that breaks TOS. We do have a plugin system but it is completely optional. We literally launch the game the same way the native Mac launcher does through Wine. The only difference is our application launcher runs natively on MacOS. We support M1 and Intel Mac CPUs and we keep the graphics API updated. Square has neglected the Mac launcher for more than 2 years. We're the only way to play FF14 on MacOS 12.3 at the moment as well.
It's shouldn't be up the community to provide support for Mac players...but here we are...Square is still selling the FF14 Mac license at full price and neglects us...Just saying..
Your choice to use our launcher. If you do, we have a lovely community discord of over 900+ Mac players, If that isn't enough to prove ourselves, not sure what is.
Have a good day!

I got to say, they did help me get up and running and I can play again. Very friendly group and they make it possible for me to access my sanity again! We're an open source project, all the code is available for you and the world to see. Very grateful to the XIV on Mac team. Thank you all for allowing us to continue playing the game!
I'm still beyond frustrated by this entire scenario however. The team announced on October 21, 2021 that they would begin support for macOS 12.x beginning the end of December 2021 (Link). The fact that they haven't even released a statement on the news channel acknowledging that it's even an issue is the antithesis of "support."
I just don't get it. It seems like the team goes out of their way most of the time to make sure they aren't scamming us in any way possible, from giving out free subscription time during over-congested expansion launch queues to suspending the auto-demolition timers during COVID peaks and war crises (both things I wouldn't doubt they have to fight internally for). And I love them to death for this; it makes me want to stick around.
But it really bothers me that they would claim "support" during a situation that's the very definition of not being supported. Support would be having literally one person on the team given a Mac with the next beta installed in charge of noticing "Hey guys, this isn't working anymore, Apple's removing Python 2," and then them doing what they need to do to get it working and sending an update out before it becomes a problem (Abstractly, I would assume this would just be bundling the Mac launcher with its own copy of Python 2). It's not hard on this scale. Companies of this size are literally able to contact Apple and say "Hey, we claim we support this, what do we need to do to get this running on your next release?" if there are any practical hurdles that are difficult to overcome.
But it's a week in and we haven't even gotten a news notice on the Lodestone just saying "Hey, we screwed up. We know it's a problem. It'll be fixed in 6.1," or whatever. This would literally be all it would have taken to make me feel better about the whole ordeal, considering I was able to logistically fix the issue on my end myself. Honestly, it's a big wake up call to me what a niche audience member they consider me to be for the game, and they don't seem to care if they lose us.
For those suggesting the use of XIV.com.
I messed up on the install, stopped it mid copying of file because I don't want the dalamud plugins running. How do I uninstall the launcher? Because it get a WINE error now when I launch.
