Thread: Launcher not working on Mac 12.3

Hey! I just recently updated my iMac (2019) to Monterey 12.3 and after doing so, the FFXIV launcher won't work at ALL. Every time I try to open it, it immediately quits/crashes without even a delay. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the launcher completely, and resetting my own computer multiple times. I have no clue what the issue could be as it was working perfectly fine before I updated my OS, and I'm installing the newest version available on the website. I can't find any information online about an issue like this, please help!

I don't use a Mac, so I can't help you troubleshoot at all, unfortunately, but it seems that the new MacOS doesn't play nicely with this game. Here's a thread about it that will hopefully help you at least a little: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...V-will-not-run

Known issue and one that has been expected for several YEARS. The CrossOver client uses Python 2.7 to launch everything. It was removed in 12.3. It was marked End of Life Jan 2020. It's replacement, Python 3, was released in Dec 2008. This is an issue over with CrossOver. Hopefully SE will switch to a proper native client instead of running inside of Wine.

The Mac client has never been native. It's being ran through CrossOver. They had issues when Apple killed off 32bit support and more issues now that M1 and Apple is still pushing forward.

The problem is Apple removed Python2 from the system path CrossOver hardcoded to require in 12.3. Installing python2 doesn't "work" (it gets you an actual error instead of the triple bounce most people get though). It's not just a M1 problem, it's a Mac Problem.

This isn't a "M1 problem" or a "Mac problem", this is a Square Enix problem. Python2 was EOL'd over 2 years ago, its the developers responsibility to keep their apps/games/etc compatible with modern OS and framework changes. There was plenty of warning, for both 32bit removal in Catalina and also for Python2's eventual removal from the OS.

My launcher worked just fine on 12.3 until I restarted to update my virus protection... Then this same issue started. To make it worse, SE Support page is nothing but dead links.
