2.0 success or failure

Fair warning, this is kind of a downer post.

After FFXIII, FFXIV, and FFXIII-2, I thought FF had seen it's worst days, and that they could only go up from here.

Even Yoichi Wada acknowledges the damage FFXIV did to the brand. But even now there is tons of potential in 2.0 as well as Versus.

But though I was thinking they could only go up from here, it could get worse.

Though I am a pretty casual player, and I am enjoying FFXIV for now, imagine if 2.0 just isn't very good. If 2.0 fails, FF is done. Your credibility is totally gone. And few people will give a damn about Versus either, or be able to justify giving a damn about Versus.

Maybe it's just the silence that is making me anxious, but lately I feel like there is a lack of information, a lack of communication, and a kind of complacency coming from SE. I feel like the devs are kind of just like "well, we made our plans, now leave us alone and let us do our thing. I'm working hard, people aren't as mad, so everything will be ok and I can rest a little easier now." That isn't enough. I hope you guys are thinking long and hard about the success of this game, thinking about your competition, and thinking about how to offer something that nobody else can. You guys have your plans, but adaptability is also of utmost importance. The market has changed a lot in the last 2 years and continues to change.

When 2.0 enters beta, listen to the testers. I can't stress that enough. Listen to them and don't force the game out the window. If it turns out it's not ready again, don't release it. Give it your all, don't get complacent, and do not repeat September 2010 again because this is your last chance. I know you guys can do it.

Yoshi said in prior interviews that, as 2.0 gets closer, more and more news and info about it will flow in. If I had to guess, I think E3 may kick off the flow of information.

I thought FF13 was great, i didnt like FF13-2 much though, missed having a real PT and Summons.

I hope so. E3 is pretty soon, so I hope that leaves enough time for them to show off as well as adept to even some of the major feedback and changes people want to see. If there are glaring flaws, I would prioritize fixing those flaws over making the release schedule. Post-pone it as long as it needs.

Here's my take on them: I wasn't a fan of 13 though I am aware some did enjoy it. The mixed reception of that game was not a massive screw up like FFXIV was, though FFXIV made it seem a whole lot worse. FFXIII-2 was an honest, if rushed and somewhat experimental, attempt at fixing some of FFXIII's problems, but it's sales show just how much the prestige of the brand has been damaged. I thought it couldn't get any lower than that, but if 2.0 fails to impress, and further, if it sucks, then FF is done.

Why? They're a great addition, Jack of all trades are nice and all but dedicated jobs are better IMO

I'm in this weird situation, where I partially think like the OP after all these not so succesful FF-titles. Yet I still have the feeling that S-E can pull this straight. Perhaps because I played FFXI and also that shimmer of faith that still remains in me. For the time being I keep my expectations very low for 2.0 and actually hoping deep down, that I will be wrong.

But again, we know the bare minimal. Like Ansem from kingdom hearts would say. "One who knows nothing, understands nothing."

What game are you playing? I have run through the waterfalls of Sil'Dih and even placed my newly crafted Holy Subligars in the Ishgard Market Wards, 2.0 is amazing!
