I survived because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around me. - Joshua Graham
this is the most midlander take I've seenI think that the pursuit of 'more options' should match the actual demand. At the end of the day the majority of people playing male characters seemingly want masculine looking designs and the majority of people playing female characters seem to desire feminine designs.
I guess if you ignore all the outfits men get to wear that "sexualize" them, then sure
Last I checked, men get to have bare chests, but women have to wear tops!
@Kolsykol You typed too much so I can't quote it directly, I'll just go paragraph for paragraph and u can figure out the rest.
I genuinely do not care how much sexualized gear males get. I urge you to make your own post.
I'm requesting to be able to pick between male and female versions since the versions "casual" and "extremely performative" don't exist. I would prefer if they were two different items in the first place, rather than being gender locked.
This would be the drag you hoped it'd be if I was a bit younger, but I've come to appreciate the opinions of older women the older I get myself.
BS statistic, give me actual numbers coward.
Why do you think, of the sex difference outfits that DO exist, women get the mini-skirts and boob windows (except one warrior class outfit which looks laughable on men, the heels are pin-prick tiny and the boob window looks downright dumb ((hint, because it's extremely performative))) and men get the outfits that actually look comfortable to wear without drawing attention to their body? Is it because men dont know how to have a fun time? Is it because a sexist society objectifies women? Is it completely coincidental? Is it because it just looks cuter on women? why?
You say the idea of femininity being performative is only through my own eyes, but what are some things we can list off that are deemed feminine and are ACTIVELY enforced by society? Make-up, shaving, revealing clothing, impractical high-heels that progressively ruin your ability to walk—do you think these things AREN'T excessively performative compared to general grooming standards that are enforced for men?
IDC about lara croft or anyone's opinions on her lol. Weird how a the male version of her, Nathan Drake, looks much more practical, safe, and comfortable than her though. Strange coincidence, surely has nothing to do with the hyper-sexualization of woman.
Doesn't seem too intellectually honest to just start accusing people of lying, tho, imagine if someone just turned around and said that about what you were saying xd
I absolutely agree that there seems to be a huge discrepancy between with how women get bundled with all the performative and excessive luggage and men get default option to exist comfortably with little to no backlash, and I want female characters to get the option to exist comfortably. I find it strange how I said this in the first few sentences and even wrapped up my forum post with this sentiment yet I got miles of you dodging around agreeing with me to instead accuse me of thinking anything women do is bad and anything men do is good. It's not like insulting feminine clothing means i'm insulting women, right? Unless there's some sort of inherent bias that exists where we're attaching femininity to women and idk...enforcing them to perform it...to keep gender roles in place. Surely not, just a misunderstanding.
You still get your silly Non La baby doll hat, and I get to look like a mysterious roaming traveler. Win/win.
I'm not here to argue the inarguable fact that women are sexualized on a completely different level than men, but you could just say you know why and move on. Otherwise you wouldn't be here making bad faith arguments on my post lol
The sage gear got to me on this. It looks so comfy on my guy, then bam, it's suddenly a mini-skirt like omg...why...I forgot being female naturally meant I must prefer skirts. There are many many male only shorts. Shorts! How the heck am I unable to wear certain shorts!? Really I just wish for several nice pairs of shorts because I happen to like wearing those but nooooooo only skirts for you!
Ohhhh also kinda wish I could hang my sword over the shoulder too. It is already most silly seeing my lala swinging about one sword twice their size who cares if I sling the sword over the shoulder..
I love you so much for taking the time out of your day to neutralize the come to be expected inflammatory "someone speaking out against the sexualization of women? Must hate women" opinion. I completely agree that if possible, sure, people should be able to have the option to hyper-sexualize their character because I'm just one person and have 0 right to tell someone not to do that. But if I genuinely had to pick (as in arguments of the dev team not having the resources), I wish so fucking badly that the feminine/hyper-sexualized/performative version (aka the one unfortunately attached to women because thats how sexism works) just wouldnt have been made in the first place and I could get the normal looking shit. I do agree that some of the outfits that look cool on men do look a bit awk on women, but id prefer that over seeing men in heels and underwear any day, personally. At this point, they just need to make it a toggle-able option. Surely it's not that much more workload than it already was to code two completely different looking articles of clothing 7(?) different races.
i co-sign this request. more options for people to express their character how they want are always good imo, and i'm a dude who plays a male character but would also like more feminine emote/clothing options (why oh why can a guy barely get a decent pair of shorts that don't reach the knees around here. or one of those cute nier raid dresses. or even the ishgardian thighboots which male npcs are already allowed to wear)
