[Edit: Please do not respond if uninterested. I'm generally a fairly modest person. I will assume that the view count minus the reply count are the amount that found this whole idea despicable. You needn't say it. Reply only if interested.]
Looking for a group of people with a broad sense on MMO/RPG/MMORPG design (willing to make more than minor repairs), to examine and pursue a 'final product' to put forth as a suggestion for the following areas:
- Fundamental coding categories to later be used for various reforms for added complexity and strategy.
Examples of this would include separate counts on elemental spell damage (aka elemental mass)--->then usable for mixing elemental effects--->Free-sequence casting / Chain-casting / Party-casting...
You get the picture... Add a fundamental bit of programming, and generally, the uses are more than what you'd first imagine as possible.
This will probably be incredibly important in any AI redesign as well. If you're looking for any changes having to do with just anything, this is probably where they'll start -- giving something for them to build off of.
- Combat system redesign.
This is the one least likely to be taken up, but I think it's a worthy cause just the same, and probably the most fun to work on for those interested in the subject. I personally am tired by just how unimaginative and generally nonstrategic (forced) the combat system is currently. We will be keeping in mind that much will change in 2.0. But, this will likely follow the overly optimistic mindset that all this will be made possible by the coming of 2.0, rather than shut off by it.
- Leveling redesign
I don't really have any examples on this, but I have heard enough musings as to what might be a more interesting replacement for the present 'gain a trait or ability every so often without choice' system to be interested in seeing what you come up with.
If this actually ends up being read by anyone, I might be a bit slow in answering tonight, but let me give some general details:
1. I can lead some projects, but my no means will I be the only leader working on this as long as others are willing to do so as well.
2. In the case of conflicting ideas, the same options hold true for this as for just all things in life: feed the seemingly best, or work separately and find the true best later.
3. We will probably be working out of FFXIVCore in order to not clutter these forums, and for slightly better website functionality over there.
4. This thread would be a good point at which to bring up if you'd like to lead a project or get feedback on an already well-done idea of yours. However, please do not go into detail here. Please redirect that discussion to a post on FFXIVCore.com.
5. My purpose here is to get people going, and to do something somewhat fun in a productive and an at least slightly more professional manner. While I do think certain changes and increased (fitting) originality and insight would be helpful, I feel no need to wreck havoc. I just like game development, especially when the product comes out well.
I'll post something more on FFXIVCore.com during my next study break (finals week, and I am lazy enough to have study breaks), likely tomorrow.
