Please make the Au Di memes real SE.
Said it before but if they're not going to allow addons, which is fine, then I hope they take the modding community as a peaceful throw down the gauntlet showdown- and actively look into ideas that can maybe work in the base game. For example addon that tells you high chance success moves to win would likely never get added, not that it bothers me people use it for NPC content lol.. but it just wouldn't make sense for SE to add (except maybe to offer players a difficulty slider, like MSQ content). Meanwhile there are many other addons that aren't like that, which I wish they go "oh wow, lots of people wanted that feature? Alright, let's see if we can do it, and do it better?".
There are other reasons for SE to have to be aware of them too, like we do in fact have what is essentially Deadly Boss Mod (DBM) in FFXIV or like the hunt one - which makes them easier to be evaporated and harder to participate if you're not using the addon.
Besides some really egregious mods their existence doesn't really bother me, I read about some and I was like wow- you know your game is 'making it' when people are putting in thousands of hours of volunteer work lol, but I think knowledge is a powerful tool and these addons might be informative for SE as well as allow SE to level / improve the playing field for console and non-console gamers.
Not likely really. There are the technical reasons given by others on developer effort to integrate them properly without breaking other things. But there's also the ToS. They would lose the leeway they have for addon usage to be a grey area. Right now, they can point to the ToS when there is a conflict. And turn a blind eye when there isn't like when addons are used responsibly. They chip away at that leeway if they started allowing them. If it's a useful enough feature, it can be considered for full integration, though that gets into the technical development requirements and questions of available resources.
I don't think they should add mod support and this is coming from someone who loves to mod games (both installing them and creating them). I think instead they need to create another team of people that adds QoL functionality every month based on what people want. Maybe it could be based on votes, IDK but I don't see them ever allowing mods, officially. You can mod the game, yes... It's technically against the ToS but Yoshi P said himself that he doesn't want the GMs burdened every-time someone gets reported for using let's say a DPS overlay. It's gray area and it's like using a calculator, excel, etc... I think he's right in not officially supporting it (too much of a headache) and just allowing people to do what they want without spying on what's on their computer given that people aren't cheating other players.
This. This right here. Having come from WoW, I am thrilled this game doesn't have much of a modding scene. Mod community completely destroyed the gameplay to the point where the devs needed to start working around the mods and it became an arms race to the bottom.
There are definitely QoL features that need added and investment there would make me happy. Better inventory, more hotbar customization, map improvements, etc.
I wouldn't mind graphical mods but I rly think they shouldn't allow gameplay mods.
WoW is a complete nightmare because of it and the fights in FFXIV already do a great job at making it not necessary while in WoW the fights are built around having mods.
I want my game to be clean and not a cluttered mess with loud noises going off in the background constantly etc.
I think that visual mods would be great tho there's probably a lot of people who would love to sit down and solve some issues present in the game for the devs especially with stuff like clipping issues and head gear not working etc.
WoW used to have a fun visual mod implementation by way of glyphs. You could set major/minor glyphs and the minor ones were usually cosmetic changes like green fire or adding angel wings to certain abilities, etc. It gives some option for visual customization without going overboard.I wouldn't mind graphical mods but I rly think they shouldn't allow gameplay mods.

no to mods (also played WoW and the mod REQUIREMENT for viable gameplay was excessive) I was overjoyed to find a lack of that in FFxiv
yes to an actual QoL team
