Yeah, that's another thing that confuses most people, especially Americans is they do not understand a good portion of South America does not speak Spanish but rather Portuguese.I'm a brazilian that plays on Behemoth, that is considered the unofficial brazilian server... There's a lot of us, and I heard some people have this sentiment that they want a south american data center for better ping, but I really think that a south america datacenter would flop. Most people in brazil at least can't afford the subscription price, and I don't know how's the situation for the other south american countries. I never saw someone speak in spanish ingame, only english and portuguese is spoken openly at least on behemoth...
From what I heard the oceanic data center isn't doing too good, It's pretty low pop. I think it would be a waste of resources to have another dedicated region that will be isolated, at least until they open data center travel across regions. Many people would choose to stay on NA since speaking english isn't a very apparent problem. However, I do think the game should be translated to spanish. As much as I'd love to have the game translated to portuguese just to laugh at the localization, I think it's unrealistic. Way more people speak spanish.
Let's play the Lambada and have people assume its Spanish lol
First of all, if it wouldn't end up running a loss for Square Enix, more Datacentres closer to more people are always better. So if at all profitable, Square Enix doing this would be great!
One of the problems in the way of this has already been brought up: The lack of a Spanish and Portuguese translation. As all translation is done in-house at Square, this would probably require them building up an entirely new Spanish and/or Portuguese localisation department at their offices in Japan. Not impossible, but it adds to the financial uncertainties already associated with a new DC.
A second factor is whether they believe the population in SA is sizeable enough to support a DC of their own. Since Oceania is, I find it hard to believe SA wouldn't also have enough potential players, so that one is probably the easiest to meet.
A third factor is regional pricing. The cost of running a DC is roughly the same no matter where they stand. You might save a bit on electricity depending on where you run it, but the main cost factor, the hardware itself, will be the same no matter where you put it. Some people here have already mentioned they'd like to see more fair pricing for the SA region if an official DC for SA were to be added, but since the "minus" part above the bottom line per DC is probably the same for Square Enix whether they put a DC in NA or SA, that means an SA DC will probably need more players to make its money back than an NA DC.
And lastly, as sad as it is, when looking at whether a new DC will be worth it, I doubt Square has much reason to look at people already playing the game on other DCs, since clearly those people have already arranged themselves with the situation, unfavourable though it may be. They are already paying subscription and a new DC will not see extra money be made from them.
One can only presume that one of these factors, be it the financial risk, or the internal localisation effort, currently scare Square Enix away from doing so.
It took the AU community years to convince them they were plenty enough and cared deeply enough about an Oceania Datacentre for it to finally happen. I can only presume it'll take just as much if not even more time to convince SE an SA DC might be in their best interests.
Well, I think it's only 1 country (maybe 2?) but population wise maybe
Brazil is the only country where Portuguese is the official language. Spanish and Portuguese are fairly close in numbers though, but Spanish is still the most spoken language and is the official language for the large majority of the countries in South America, so yes most people associate South America with Spanish. Its not a confusion, just a general fact.
Yeah I think my problem with comparing Lost Ark SA population vs FFXIV is that Lost Ark is FTP. It makes more sense that there would be bigger population compared to XIV by default. Many countries in SA or central wouldn't be able to afford the subscription. Having lived in El Salvador for a flash minute I think most people wouldn't even bother lol. Especially since subscription prices usually aren't regional IIRC.I'm a brazilian that plays on Behemoth, that is considered the unofficial brazilian server... Help with what? The year is 2022.
However, there is not yet a South American server. But the worst part is that we don't see prediction or just a word anywhere.
We are a gigantic community. A fanatical community, if not the most of all.
We deserve to be heard.
We understood before when they talked about the difficulty of establishing themselves in the region, but it has been almost 10 years. Other games came in the meantime and won a legion of worshipers.
Why can't Final Fantasy do the same?
We have what it takes to do better than them.
That's why I beg:
Please listen to us.
I actually saw this the other day, someone responded to me in chat in Lost Ark saying that my server was the "official spanish server" - which was news to me.It's a common issue with a few games. When I used to play DotA, we've had servers for every region including SA. However, their players would still pour into NA for some unfathomable reason. This also could be seen again at certain times in PoE and a few other games. SA, much like Russia, has developed the reputation of neglecting their own servers and instead claiming another as their own. This is comparable to what the English speakers did to Ship 2 of PSO2 back in the day, though an English version of the game didn't exist at the time.
I believe this is what they're referring to.
Anyways, it's unlikely to happen. As it has been mentioned, the population for SA players just isn't there, no matter how 'fanatical' you claim them to be.

Hence my comment. There's a lot of SA servers, yet mine is flooded to the brim with spanish speakers. Had no choice but to block them so i could read english only.
