The RP duties are a story telling mechanism and fan service to other Final Fantasy games where you usually play as one of several NPCs and not a character you create.

I don't particularly like them myself (In from the Cold was a brilliant piece of story telling but the rest I'd be happy to see go away because the only interesting parts were the cutscenes that played afterwards) but they aren't common enough to make me quit the game.

I've payed real money for plenty of games over the years that I decided were bad games once I started playing. Games are always a crap shoot - some you'll like, some you won't. If you find one you don't like, then stop playing it and go play other things. This one won't disappear if you and your friends stop playing it because there are hundreds of thousands of players who do enjoy it.

The irony is all of them except one specific instance you are ultra overpowered and with simplified playstyle beyond belief.
You can generally win by rolling your face on your keyboard and reciting your particular nations anthem.

The potencies on those skills make the WoL look weak.
