"A technical issue has occurred. Try accessing the site again." how I fixed mine!

How I was able to remove the "A technical issue has occurred. Try accessing the site again." was from removing both (Documents -> My Games -> Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn) and (My PC -> Program Files x86 -> Steam -> Steamapps -> Common ->Final Fantasy XIV Online). At first, I copied and pasted both files to my desktop. Then deleted the original folders. Uninstalled FFXIV then reinstalled it through steam. This bypassed the "A technical issue has occurred. Try accessing the site again" issue. After that I was able to ACTUALLY link my steam account to my square enix account. It wouldn't let me download the game so I tried to put the copied original folders back into both folder locations. However, this made it revert back to the same issue. So, this time I just completely deleted both files with no copies on my desktop. Uninstalling and reinstalling FFXIV through steam again. It fixed the issue again. I tried EVERYTHING and this is the only thing that worked for me!

"For anyone experiencing this problem, try moving or deleting the etc folder from the "...\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" folder. Launcher should work after that. I think the culprit is "install.def", it contains one string: freetrial. That might be why only some Steam users experienced this problem, they started with the free trial. If that works let us know."

I did have a "install.def" in the same folder and did start as a free trial through steam before subbing! I was able to remove that "install.def" file and put the original folder back into the same place and do not have the "A technical issue has occurred." error back. Still trying to download the game without an error.

Used this free VPN connected to Japan (I am in US) to be able to bypass the "Unable to download patch files [30413][25008][20495][20495]" after deleting all my ffxiv game files and doing an uninstall/reinstall through steam. If you're having this issue use various VPNs until one works!!!

    Hey that's quite a find!

I can confirm as someone who didn't have any issues that I did not start on the free trial. Hopefully that's the magic bullet that others needed.
