    Error When Launching (Non-Steam)

Every time I launch the game, I get what I'm assuming is a Direct X Error. I got this before the latest patch and rolling back by Nvidia Drivers helped, but this time neither a rollback nor an update helped. I have no onboard graphics card, only my NVIDIA RTX 2080, and Windows Update has no updates for me beyond Windows 11. Also worth noting that the game was running just fine yesterday, so this may be connected to the new patch.

    Greeting fellow Eorzean,

We apologize for the delay in response to this matter. We would like you to try the following suggestions:

    1) Switch to DirectX 9 by selecting the ‘Config’ button on the launcher.
    2) Completely uninstall and reinstall/reupdate the drivers for your graphics card.
    3) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
    4) Please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive.
    5) Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
    6) Run Windows Update and ensure all recommended and optional updates are installed. Multiple reboots and attempts may be required.
    7) If your motherboard has onboard graphics alongside your dedicated video card, please go into Windows and disable the onboard graphics or go into your motherboard BIOS menu and disable it from there so only the dedicated graphics card (RTX 2080) is outputting visuals.

We hope this information is helpful in resolving the issue.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

Thank you so much for your reply! As per your suggestions, I have uninstalled and done a clean reinstall of my graphics card drivers. I also disabled the Nvidia overlay as that was the only one I had running. All recommended and optional updates in Windows Update are installed. The game is on my Crive, and I have no onboard graphics card. After applying your suggestions and also a bit of fiddling on my end, I've come up with the following results:

    1. Launching in DX9 fixes the issue completely, but it's not ideal for overall game experience. I'd personally much rather avoid this as a permanent solution.
    2. Launching the game in DX11 then immediately tabbing out to another app, then using my gamepad to adjust my FPS to be capped at 72 (my laptop can run up to 144 and I have played like this without issue) also removes the issue, and later launches of the game are fine. Trying to set it to 144 later on causes a game crash.
    3. Setting the display to Borderless Windowed (as opposed to Fullscreen) allows me to set FPS to 144 or uncapped. Setting it to Fullscreen afterwards causes a crash.

It seems that I can run the game with either Fullscreen or max FPS, but not both at the same time. I'm currently managing with Fullscreen at 72 FPS, which is fine, but if there's some way to get both that would, of course, be ideal for me.

Thank you again for your reply!
