Regarding the Error Displayed when Launching the Steam Version (Mar. 8)

Since Patch 6.08 HotFixes was implemented on Mar. 8, 2022, we have received a number of reports that an error message is displayed when launching the Steam version and the game cannot be started.

We are currently investigating this issue. However, given that there have been many cases where the game has been launched and played without any problems, we have not been able to identify the cause at this time.

In addition, please note that since account link between Steam account and Square Enix account has been introduced for the Steam version, it is no longer possible to start the game from anything other than the Steam client. Therefore, please make sure that you are launching the game with the "Play" button in Steam.

We are still investigating the issue, but have confirmed that this issue can be avoided by setting your Steam profile name to alphabetical characters only.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but as a temporary workaround, please temporarily change your Steam profile name to only alphabetical characters and attempt launching the game.

After the game launches normally without any errors, enter your Square Enix account to link your account. For more information about account linking, please refer to the following topics.

Regarding the issue in which an error message was displayed and the game could not be started on the Steam version of the game if there were non-alphabetical characters in the Steam profile name, we pinpointed the cause, completed inspection, and the issue was resolved on Mar. 9, 2022 at approximately 1:54 a.m. (PST) / 9:54 (GMT) / 20:54 (AEDT). The game can now be played as normal.
