Old launcher no longer working

Appearently the launcher is ignoring the Browser option in the config file after a recent update. This means the game just turned unplayable on Proton which makes me wonder if SquareEnix has any plans to support Proton or the Steam Deck.

Another thing that is quite concerning is that the browser seems to rely on Internet Explorer, which ends extended support in 3 months.

Are there any plans to fix the launcher in the future?

Changing the browser parameter in ffxiv_boot.cfg to 1 and adding 'NOSTEAM=1 %command%' in the steam launch options is bringing back the old launcher for me.
Only problem is, it's not letting me log in, because of the special treatment of ffxiv-steam-keys.

Problem is, as always, proprietary M$ tech. (and an outdated one on top of that it seems)
Wish there will be some fix soon, but either way - I can't play no more, and am losing game time I've paid for..

It's even more disappointing as if this is accurate, effort has been spent break the experience of users.

Same here, basically loosing 28 days. But well, it was unsupported, so I hardly can blame them.

MSHTML is so old and in a pretty bad state in wine, I doubt wel'll get a fix any time soon unless Valve decides to do the work or SE actually makes a good launcher on a well supported stack. Since this launcher is not very old and Linux/wine unsupported I doubt that Square will take the effort.

Yea, i had around 150 days left of 6 month subscription, I hope they come up with a fix.

Ironic, just last week Gaben was in the news for playing FFXIV on the Steam Deck. Barely one week later, and the functionality is dead!

Unfortunately SE probably isn't too invested in a few (unsupported) Proton users out of their entire playerbase.

Well, they don't have to do much. Just let us use the old launcher. Problem fixed.
