Old launcher no longer working

There are devs in the Linux community currently working on it as we speak so all we can do is hope wait and be patient for them to work their magics.

Goats: are working on it, they have acknowledged on an issue raised on Github. So hopefully they will get their quick launcher to work with steam and Proton

Unless Gaben comes to the rescue before then but who knows.

I've emailed SE support about this issue, pointing out that 14 is still shown as valid Linux game on Steam (and that Steam was treated as a whole another platform than windows, PSx, Mac thus far), got a reply that it was sent to the devs so mayhaps...
I doubt they'll manage to develop a whole new launcher any time soon for a niche like Linux/Steamdeck players.. old launcher with an updated JS maybe an option tho..
Let's hope Gaben will go brr and help us.

I opened a ticket aswell, unfortunately got a generic reply asking me to run msinfo and dxdiag, which unfortunately won't work because msinfo only shows Wine version and I'm not sure if I can run dxdiag with proton.

In any case I sent them a copy of the Steam System Information you can gather from the Steam app Help menu and I'm hoping I can get a reply. I also clarified that the license I have purchased is for Steam as platform, and not the "Windows" one, I'm not sure if that even matters, but hopefully because I had to repurchase the game to play through the Steam client they can work to fix that problem, specially considering they have a separate license for Steam and people who buy the Steam one will probably want to be able to play on Steam Deck.

Valve's list has nothing to do with SE. They do not officially support Linux for this game and thankfully they probably never will.

Steam is nothing more than a store. SE has no obligation to support valves steam deck.

Steam is nothing more than a store. SE has no obligation to support valves steam deck.

Except that Square Enix doesn't treat it as "nothing more than a store." Steam licenses are sold as separate licenses for a separate platform, being treated on the same footing as Windows, Mac, etc. If SE wants to treat Steam as its own platform, then they either need to support that platform or discontinue selling an independent license for it. They do not sell separate licenses for every other digital store that carries FFXIV.

The game has worked flawlessly for me in Linux using Steam Proton over the last several months, but I also had to use the workaround of using the old launcher. Throwing my +1 on the pile for no longer being able to login due to this forced update. Really frustrating that the launcher of all things is what's preventing us from playing.

if anyone happens to find another workaround by any means (such as winetools), please share it!

Sad... I guess I'll just stop playing. FF is not worth my time getting Windows to run again.
