Min iLv doesnt make it any harder than being a faceroll. Ive SOLOed the fight at Lv60, with gear LOWER than min iLv. (also no echo)Mainly because people do the fight with ilv270 tome gear even after synced, while the average item level requirement is 142. It is like you doing side quests up to lv100 and go back to bully a lv30 boss. Also potency increase and skill changes as expansion go contribute to making the fight go down much quicker.
Story-progression trial is not supposed to be hard. They can cause a few wipes upon release, but you will quickly pick up the mechanic and be done with the fight in less than 30 minutes. And skill changes, item level just makes the fight even easier.
A solution is running min-level no-echo so that your party's strength is as weak as possible, or wait for SE to add 8-man Trust, which will likely run at min-ilv and have sub-par rotation, thus making the fight last longer. Either way, skill changes will continue to a huge impact on the difficulty of the fight.
And this was many years ago, before changes that made jobs stronger.

It's not really just the state of Thordan, but really the state of all the final trials for the base expansions, where the item level cap is just woefully above the item level the content was designed around. It would really be nice for them to redo the syncing of their content so everything doesn't just fall over.
I agree with the overall sentiment of your post—but Thordan normal mode has always been extremely easy. Even at release.I feel sad every time I queue for a roulette and i see it's the King Thordan fight.
Not that i don't like this fight. Actually it is one of my favorite contents in this game. I love the lore, I love the map design, I love the soundtrack, and specially, i love the feelings i had when I did this fight for the very first time when 3.0 released.
I feel sad because it's now one of the easiest contents in the entire game. Healings are almost not required. Tanks? a black mage can easily tank him, and I would not be surprised to see someone beating him using only auto attack.
I'm not saying that i want really hard Trial. I just would like to see new players having the same experiecing that veterans had when the game/expansion/patch was released. It's so frustrating to get to the climax of the expansion, the biggest moment, the final boss, and see a Scholar afk while Eos heals the party, or see people dancing on AOE.
This has to be fixed. Please, take a closer look to this Trial and some other contents in the game
That said, they are turning Cape Westwind into a solo instance. If they do any adjustments to Thordan, I’m pretty sure it would be the same thing. I don’t think they would make him a challenging 8-man trial a la Shinryu or Hades on release.
They could maintain some semblance of challenge for end of the expansion trials if they put an item level sync on them. They do them for the last dungeon of the expansion (Ala Mhigo, Amarout, The Dead Ends), so I think it should be more than possible to do it on the trials. That would at least prevent some of the item level power creep. It's not really just the state of Thordan, but really the state of all the final trials for the base expansions, where the item level cap is just woefully above the item level the content was designed around. It would really be nice for them to redo the syncing of their content so everything doesn't just fall over.
It would not address job changes that occur between expansions, I don’t think. That would require more individual adjustments that I don’t think the devs are willing to do.

That's not what "losing money" means. If you want to be clearly understood, use language the way everyone else uses it, where "losing money" means "negative number in profits column".
Are people actually claiming Thordan (hard) was ever difficult? I played that when it was current and the newbie advice was basically "beat him up and enjoy the fight, it's pretty".
