Now, though, /30 days played here on FF, and the job system has replaced my need for alts.
I mean, with WoW, the primary focus of alts, for me, was to experience the different classes and specs (jobs being the FFXIV equivalent). I also liked to have uniquely dressed characters, and I wanted access to every crafting profession so I could reap the benefits of all of them. That was it, for me.
So, in FFXIV I can experience every different "class and spec" (read: job) by simply equipping the relevant equipment. Along with that I can create unique glamours for each job, and I can level up all crafting professions. I have access to all my mounts and pets whether I am a Bard, a Summoner, a Fisherman, etc. Cool beans.
What's lacking, for me, are two things:
1. My "core" character always stays a male Au'Ra (barring paid character services). Eh. I'd prefer different races and genders but the varying glamours are suiting me fine for now.
2. No clear and easy way to level up alternate jobs. My first job was leveled via MSQ, second job leveling by all the remaining side-quests. When I do my third and fourth I have things like Palace of the Dead and Beast Tribe quests to explore. When I get into the realm of my eighth, ninth job, though, I am not exactly sure what I'll be doing. Spamming PF? PotD for the third time? It's gonna be uber-repetitive.
Thing is, I am still at the stage in this game where "uber-repetitive" is quite fun, so I'm in a good spot right now.
