No, actually, my "entire argument" is based upon a vague sense of whether or not it's fair to question whether or not more could be done to give more to do for the players, rather than any sense of personal preference. Once more, you're aiming your argument against something that isn't there, and it would be nice if you could stop assuming things just because you want me to be wrong.
Crafting and gather certainly are things that one can do forever, if they want. Certainly there will be plenty of people looking for furniture when the housing lottery is fixed.dont pretend like this game is lacking in content to do because it clearly does not.
Bozja and Eureka are good examples of activities with horizontal progression using a separate vertical progression system. They're good, and they last a hell of a lot longer than the general patch items like dungeons, story stuff, or even raids.
But other than that? Everything else in this game individually loses its luster quickly because of the nature of this game's design. You can argue that FFXIV has lots of little individual things to do, and you would be right. I, however, will not agree that every little individual thing is something that can be done to keep one's interest from fading, nor would I agree that all those individual items substantiate a sub for every person.
You seem to be under the impression that, because there's "something for everyone," that means everyone should be satisfied and there's no reason to feel like the content could be altered, improved, or reviewed because there is an abundance of it if only one could just abandon their preferences. However, I argue that the very fact that they decided to try and implement things like Criterion Dungeons (assuming that they end up making what I'm thinking they're making out of them) and the Island Sanctuary (which we still know almost nothing about) means that even they are aware that there needs to be something in place for everyone at every level that can keep interest for at least a little longer than the basic patch items and whatever backlog of items they were never interested in in the first place.
And with the slightly longer patch cycles, it's going to be more important than ever that they implement something for each type of player, at each level group, that they can satiate themselves with over time. With any luck, Criterion Dungeons will be just that. If not, then, well, I won't be doing the shocked pikachu face if I see people complaining about not having anything to do, and I'm not going to tell them to go do something else because I'm not in the business of making other people change their minds about what they want to do.
That would be incredible, actually, but I'm not sure how feasible it would be for a business.
Plus, how do they work in the price of the additional retainers, etc?
