I think they're trying to say that there are certain things (such as a house, if you own one) which you stand to lose if you do take breaks. Which is correct.
They're not saying that Yoshi-P is holding everyone at gunpoint.
Or is he?

Expect demolition is still on hold til further notice and besides SE emails you to warn you.

For now, Demolition is on hold, yes. But when it isn't..?
I also wouldn't rely on the email service from a company who only discovered the joy of shopping carts, for their eshop, in recent years.
You can just do what I did. I stopped my sub for a month (back when money was tight), went into the house on the last day before the sub ended, waited 40 days, then resubbed and re-entered the house to turn off auto-demolition.

That's a start, but the question is why someone should have to do that in the first place, especially when it was promised, originally, that this sort of thing would not be an issue?
But that's just one of the many issues with housing (especially these days) that really should be addressed and spoken of by a dev directly. It's only a part of the larger issue to be discussed, which is that most of XIV's content doesn't necessarily have the necessary staying power even if it is well-liked.
