Personally I used to be really into housing and spent a ton of both real and in game money and time to take care of my houses, I'm perfectly aware of the commitment, but I really did not like the idea of all I put into housing turning into dust if I want a longer than 45 days break from the game. I don't care why things are that way, it's as grating to hear the devs encourage people to unsub during droughts as it was to be told to go do Ultimate if we want "engaging healer gameplay". It's not addressing the elephant in the room.
That sounds like a YOU problem in all honesty. Not a lot of people in this game own a house which is why I said that there is a certain commitment if you want to keep something thats takes up actual permanent space on a server. Again I'm not saying this system is completely perfect but those requirements are there to keep the limited housing crisis fair for everybody....as fair as such a system can get. The devs commenting people to take breaks is a general address for the majority of the community to take in regards to the game's content. Housing in of itself is just the one rare exception here, like I said a good portion of the playerbase dont own one anyway. There's nothing overly scummy for the devs to say that and the log in requirement is there to better gauge people whom stay committed to their premium virtual space. Is it fair for other people who have the means to buy a house but cant because all plots are already taken? Even by those who dont sub as much as them? You have a month and 2 weeks to stay unsubbed in this game if you own a house, which imo is enough for people to take their break and come back to do some game stuff.

I get what you're saying though. Everybody's situation will be different and its hard to cater to every single individual's needs in an MMO. I hope Island Sanctuaries help alleviate the limited housing issue.
