Does your opinion on what MMORPG content matter more than theirs? Also, can you give me an example of what you consider 'MMORPG content'?
The issue isn't inherently the content itself but the utterly lack of longevity. Take Island Sanctuary, for example. It has completely arbitrary timers because the content wouldn't last a weekend without them. There is nothing of substance beyond the initial novelty. Yoshida begging players to "take it slow" isn't him trying to promote casual content, it's him realizing the content can't possible last if players interact with it for even an hour daily.

Variant/Criterion Dungeons are another thing. The rewards are awful, especially for Criterion. Therefore, you have precisely zero reason to continuously run it despite both serving as the "it" thing to do for their respective patch cycle. Variant actually highlights another issue: how useless healers are. There's no reason to touch the role as the content is designed to be solo-able with bonus actions. So you're just a gimped DPS with two buttons.

What's sad at their cores both Island Sanctuary and Variant/Criterion Dungeons are good concepts. The former is just incredibly barebones and both lack longevity.
