Yeah I do know what proxy trace means. But my regular tracert gives me a jump to Dallas, Texas before jumping to Japan. I clearly just wanted to simplify the idea with a picture for forum users with less network knowledge.

Probably. There are even cases where making a detour to the US is the better choice, if it means avoiding a server in say, Malaysia (no offence, but their infrastructure has an average response time of 800+ms). For example, a Portuguese friend is normally routed to Japan directly, with an average latency of about 350ms, just like mine. After trying out battleping, her response times improved, even though the signal went to the US first...

Lag is no excuse for not being able to do content, it just adds some slight extra challenge and kills some of the game experience.

I partially agree. It depends how bad the lag is. A lag of 700ms+ handicaps you a lot. Let's just say, a normal latency of being on the other side of the world doesn't handicap you, but there are cases of suboptimal routing.... and both SE and ISP claiming they can't do anything about it (really now, isn't it the ISP that decides HOW the signal is routed?)

When I look at gameplay from JP players on youtube, my gaming experience is nowhere close as smooth as their. I dont expect SE to move servers or anything like that just maybe turn more stuff client based or something. There is a fine line where you decide what goes server side and whats client side.

Well they did say the lag we're having now is because of the servers being old and the engine having too much stuff server side, and that they will change it with 2.0.

I really hope they do.
