Seriously? IMHO, WoW Vanilla was WAY better than Everquest. It was more accessible, more polished, less buggy, better graphics, less laggy etc. You can still play the old Everquest for free, see Project1999. And you will see, the game is terrible. There are reasons why Everquest died when WoW Vanilla came out.

And WoW Vanilla was never a real story game. It is more comparable to D&D. You have a world and you play some campaigns in it. Chris Metzen, the inventor of the Warcraft universe is a tabletop guy. You could play the game and follow the stories in it without the books. With the books you got some background informations. But the books were not necessary to understand what is going on in the game. This problem has the current WoW. It is not possible to figure out why some things happen and why the pro-/antagonists act like they act without the books. I guess, the current devs tried to make a transition from a D&D-like game to a story game. And they failed badly.

And thats exactly why it was worse than eq and dark age of camelot, blizzard had game settings that concept would have worked with, starcraft for example but warcraft has a great story from 1-3 it was by the far the worse series to attempt a dnd concept with...

Anyone who thinks D&D is not a story game is greatly mistaken. Every campaign is a different story. There were a number of stories in WoW, each told separately, each brought into the greater fold of an overarching storyline. Even in Vanilla WoW.

True, you could ignore the books, at least through Wrath of the Lich King.

But the books were not necessary to understand what is going on in the game. This problem has the current WoW.

If by "current WoW" you mean anything that followed Cataclysm, I'd tend to agree. But one must not pretend that books being the meat of every storyline is something that only recently cropped up. It's been a continuing problem for the last 10 years. Or have you conveniently forgotten every expansion after Mists of Panderia?

But new world died out for most ppl in a month. Lost ark isnt all that either... They only last until the fresh new hype appears thats not surival thats just abusing hype.

Plus lets be honest wow was trash even when classic was new compared to eq/dark age of camelot. It has horrible story u cant follow unless you buy like 150 dollars worth of books lol and the gameplay and combat was way worse than dark age of camelot,

Hate to break it to you. FFXIV is a pretty bad game as well. It's been on a progressive course leading it to become worse and worse with each expansion and patch.

actrually lost ark is a good game its just meha for other reasons but honestly it has plenty of amazing concepts but it has major things i hate as well but honestly it is a good game (idk about new world) but its not that great.. just like black desert (is honestly amazing) but it destoryed itself with basicly p2w

well, I can break down why ppl been saying that..

ARR: we want real summoner
hw: comes out ignored, we get a lizard race once again request for more summoner summon feeling. (also more healers please) or tank
stormblood out: ignored ( and get hit with 2 dps making dps ques longer) ignored and lose protect
shadowbringers: Again ignored for most part, and has more idenity and enjoyable stuff ignored and get told you will never have a short race again because of a bs reason.
(but honestly)
over 8 years later finnaly listen to summoner players (kinda) 8 years for something that should have been there when some of us preorder arr for the first time and complained about it every expansion to get ignored lol


Also if you rlly want to know why mmos will "die" (not rlly because ppl will always play i even get on dark age of camelot still) it still a dead game due to ghost land zones (noplayers)

is 3 things: first cash shops(these are fine for outfits, and dress up things for fun) but that's it period, second, they make every thing accessible to everyone no matter their skill level or tastebuds which makes jobs, classes and even crafting lose what makes them have fun. (this can be seen in ast, or old arr bard) both were amazing and enjoyable with old design (they aren't now). and 3: the ideology both players and devs in mmos basically tell people: "if you don't like it play something else, if you don't like forced interaction then don't play a mmo"

accessiablity is good for alot of things, but in class design or gameplay design it really isnt pick a field for each job/class and stay in it

Lalafells speak wisdom, we just don't speak as to WHEN this sort of thing will happen (trust me, not biased)

personally though, I don't think XIV is really that bad of a game lol. Problems, aplenty and definitely, but you'll get that with an old, PS3-era 10 year old game with code that's harder to work with every year. I think you could do worse though.
