Due to amazon trying to milk the whales. Which worked well for them profit wise but isn't working for the game.
Hate to break it to you. FFXIV is a pretty bad game as well. It's been on a progressive course leading it to become worse and worse with each expansion and patch.

Sorry, but MMO(RPG)s do better than ever. Just look how much hype and interest Lost Ark or New World had. The same with Endwalker. There were so many and long queues, that SQEX bought new servers and opened a new data center. And the remaining data centers will also get additional servers.MMO RPGs generally are dying, people want to go back to quality singleplayer games that they can play at their own pace, without five XxSephirothxXs jumping around and trying everything in the book to ruin their gameplay. The internet hype is over, today internet is everywhere, even for free. Back in the late 90s it was thrilling to go online, today you’re glad if no one bothers you through one of your perma-connected apps for 3 seconds.
Cheers
It most likely former WoW player trying to find a new "home" more than people being into mmo again.Sorry, but MMO(RPG)s do better than ever. I don't get what this is all about. Define "mid-core"? I play for about 5 hours a day, am I one? Am I a casual? I dunno and I probably don't care as long as I'm having fun.
He is talking about the players that aren't donkeys but aren't Mozart either. Which is the majority of mmo players.

WoW also has a bad habit of not only retconing in game but in its novels and comics too. Nearly all the "big events" and the such happen in books 99% of the playerbase never read. Heck, Warlords of Draenor plot starts through a novel and in game the players have no idea what's happening other than they need to go after an escaped Garrosh by jumping into this randomly opened portal. Furthermore, Thrall cheated iin the fight and he put Garrosh in a position he didn't want yet Thrall is never called out on anything.
"Any MMO that cant tell its story ingame without the player needing to buy a dozen books has utterly failed"
I mean it has failed at storytelling I think that's what the quote meant.
A lot of games ( probably most tbh ) have complete garbage stories but still are incredibly profitable.
WoW also has some pretty severe levels of nostalgia bias and lives off of what Blizzard used to be.
A lot of people just get hyped up about Blizzard games because it's Blizzard and no other reason.
I have a very hard time understanding how people can continue playing games that makes them so angry tho.
There's so many people who genuinely seem to hate the game but still play it non-stop, same goes for other games too.
If a game makes you unhappy it's time to stop.
I think the addiction is pretty deep.
lol wow didnt counter to casual lol at all it made you waste hours and hours and hours all day every day every night every hour every second if u missed one day you were screwed until the next expansion tbh not only that the only story content in the entire game is locked into raids and all that lol so no wows declain was it only countered to neckbeards and overweight ppl who never went outside.Guess what, the majority of your playerbase is midcore. Not casual players who have a panic attack when they need to use more than three buttons on their hotbars. Not hardcore players who clear the tier in 16 hours.
Square Enix is on the same trajectory as Blizzard. The sad thing is that the playerbase refuses to see this because of all the blind hype, and this same thing happened in WoW - people couldn't fathom the thought that WoW could be getting worse.
I believe most midcore players will be happy with healers that can do more than two button rotations, for example. People do have brain cells in this game.
FF14 is clearly not catering to the world prog players. So the problem really is the incessant catering of casual players. This will eventually lead to FF14's decline, when you adjust content schedule and delivery to cater to the lowest common denominator, making the traditional midcore crowd dissatisfied and leave. Only reason this is obfuscated is because of all the influx. This game right now is full of new players that have no understanding of the game and have barely participated in the game for more than a tier. And even then I know plenty of WoW players who have quit after literally just one tier because the drought is even worse than in WoW.
People mock WoW's peaks and falls between expansions, but FF14's drops are bigger, sometimes by 50%.
not even everquest or dark age of camelot was as punishing to "casual players" as wow was lol
also btw casual doesnt mean bad plenty of 'casual players" are on way more than hardcore ones and tbh have way more skill just hate working with others or have social anxiety, or both tbh and would gladly play harder stuff if they could do so alone *this coming from someone who plays plenty of very very very hard games solo and can handle it. I just cant handle ppl lol outside rp or if i have things in common with them
