    How to report in-game scam?

I received a message from a player asking me to join a raffle. In looking at the almost similar forum URL, I noticed it is not the official forums but a scam page (forum.square-enix.com-j.ws). In-game, I only have the option to report the player for RTM, but that doesn't seem to qualify. Anything I should do?

You can use RMT, as basically it is a RMT scam, or use the Support menu and fill out a Harassment ticket.

The way this type of scam works is by tricking the people who get the message into following the link and entering their account info, of which the scammer uses to take over your account, knocking you offline, then stripping it of Gil and valuables, then to send out more messages from "you" to those in your friends list and to those in your current zone.
Also, by visiting the URL in the message, they get your computer's IP, of which they try various exploits to cause your local internet connection to crash, thus making it difficult for you to try and stop the account take over and/or getting further exploits/Trojans into your computer.

By the book, this is neither RTM nor harassment. Not sure what SqE considers it, which is why I've came asking for directions from their end. About the process they use, that seems about right from other games I've seen it more often.

    Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

It's a fishing scheme used by RMT to steal large sums of gil, and accounts, with barely any effort. Your best way of handling it is to report via the in-game report feature. Doesn't matter if you label it harassment or rmt, usually, but not always, a gm will respond to you to verify, but either way it goes to the same ppl and they know how to handle it.

Noted, thanks. Seems unfortunate, this person might have been a victim: there is quite some invested time on leveling jobs to 80/90.

The person definitely was a victim. But they can recover their account, although the items and gil will be lost forever. To be fair though, if you fall for this scam in 2022, when most of us have grown up with the internet and with an abundance of knowledge and warning of this and similar scams, I have very little sympathy for them. Do not click random links is first day of internet 101 and even my 8yr old niece knows better.

To be fair, anyone over the age of 40 grew up without the internet and without any knowledge about scams. That's about three billion folks. Some of these folks become victims.

You can have 'little sympathy' if you wish, but the idea that 'everyone' should know how to sniff out a scam, when three billion people came of age before the internet was widely used, is pretty silly. Removing sympathy for folks that fall prey to this stuff is cold. Some people are vastly different than one's self, one's friends, and one's family and social circles; that includes folks with zero knowledge of how to tell a scam from something real.

Have sympathy, offer advice, educate and uplift. There's no need to negatively judge others based on their lack of some random knowledge you personally take for granted. Those people you have no sympathy for... likely they have knowledge that you are ignorant of, too.

So, there's two choices. Either you respect the next person, and they respect you, despite being different, or you both just have disdain for each other, over the simple fact that person A knows things person B doesn't, and person A figures person B is an idiot for lacking that knowledge.

We can do miles better than the latter.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

Unfortunately the issue you are describing is not something we can help with in the Technical Support Forums. We advise to reach out to a Game Master in game through the Support Desk on the Systems Menu.

This thread will be moved to 'Separate Support Required'
