Thank you!To Carin: Congrats on your clear. If and when a next roadblock comes, just remember the bosses almost always operate in a set pattern..so you can anticipate what will come next.
Also, if Bard isn't working in that case, try Paladin, even if it's just for solo play. It's a surviving machine!
And as I think I've previously admitted, I know I'm being stubbornly stupid where Bard is concerned, but despite how challenging I've sometimes found it I DO generally enjoy it. It was the Archer job that attracted me to play and, as daft as it may sound, I kinda want see the story through to the end (which I think is still some way off) using the job that attracted me to the game and I've played from the onset.
Plus... I'm very happy with my char's outfit and bow glam - I absolutely love Tsukuyomi's Moonlit Greatbow!
That isn't to say I won't try other jobs though - I have, in particular, tried Red Mage and quite liked it - I'll almost definitely explore that job a little more as a 'distraction' if/when I need to step away from the MSQ for any reason.
Glad to hear your personal success with the wall you had to climb over.Thank you!

You may enjoy the machinist too as its a typical mmo bow user playstyle with a gun/rifle theme and a mini pet moment you call once you have enough energy reserves , sourced through some actions
If you're having fun with the game, then keep at it. There are things you can do to improve, like...
- learning your job/rotation
- practice on training dummies
- read or watch guides for trials/raids/etc (unless you want to experience the content blind)
- adjust your HUD to make things easier to see (for example, enemies have a skill castbar you should keep your eye on. you can adjust the size and placement of this so it's easier for you to see) Maybe take some time to see other people's HUD layouts just to give you some ideas
- adjust your keybindings in a way that is comfortable for you and familiarize yourself with them
- ask for advice. there are discords you can join where people will give you suggestions on how to play your job, and they also have very useful guides
The thing about learning your rotation is it won't feel natural at first, but it eventually becomes muscle memory. When you're confident in your rotation, you can start paying more attention to fight mechanics. You're still kinda new so don't be too hard on yourself.
There's nothing wrong with dumb luck or any other kind for that matter. Glad to hear you made over your recent hurdle.Okay - opinions may clash but I do agree that this forum is more friendly than most I've experienced.
Anyway, away from the direction the discussion was taking....
Managed to pass the most recent obstacle that was causing me trouble (although heaven knows how - part following advice with a dose of sheer dumb luck I suspect!) and can now continue on with the story. I still hate the 'body swap' scenario though!
Have to say, if it weren't for the quality of the story content, and advice received here, I probably would've burnt my bow a long time ago!
Great! Just let me know when you're online. I'm usually around eastern prime time.
And I think it's great you want to stick with your class. Other classes can be a lot of fun. But moving to those should be an *option*, not a requirement. We should all be able to get through the basic content with the class we enjoy.
Given where you said you were, you have the first big trial coming up soon. It has some *very* spicy mechanics but don't lose heart. I saw many many people struggling with this earlier in EW. I've seen more than one instance where we tried long enough that we ran out of time for another try. But there are enough experienced folks around Aether now that you can find help through it.
Thanks again - I usually only a get a few hours late evening, and am generally online at around 22:00gmtGreat! Just let me know when you're online. I'm usually around eastern prime time.

Oddly enough, my wife is also (very stubbornly) a bard!Thank you!

I do have to acknowledge that my stubbornness isn't helpful though - I mean, I detest the whole 'body-swap/play as NPC' thing that keeps popping up and this may be one of the (many) reasons for that.

Your posts has been really interesting, especially coming from a standpoint that I've personally never experienced on my own (and probably never will). To that, I thank you for sharing your point of view and your honest thoughts as you progress through the gameplay. It really helps me understand better what is exactly going on in the 'other side of spectrum'.
.. Additionally, reading your gameplay progression in this thread feels like a journey on its own tooPlease do not give up.
Despite being in the same DC, with my irregular hour I had a feeling we'll probably never cross path. But in the event we actually do, I'll make sure to remember your name and hopefully will be helpful to assist you through whatever duty the game matches us together.
P.S.: I tend to dislike those RP solo duties, too. Let me control my familiar WoL buttons lol.
