I think SE will address this when the character model update rolls around. It would honestly be foolish not to.

I honestly hope so. It's just the update they gave was very non committal on anything other than lighting and textures. So I hope if they see wide support for things like these on their forums they may be encouraged to go the extra mile. I definitely see a scenario where they roll out better lighting/high res version of the same character models and call it a day. This would entail a bit more work but I firmly beleive it would be the right thing to do.

This would also not signficiantly affect the look of the characters, other than being more detailed which does align with their goals of keeping the look of the character as intact as possible. Which I'm super okay with. I like the general aesthetic of the game.
