    Oh, wait:

Seems I’m a broken record. Though I get point 3 being controversial.
Unfortunately I suspect that it's not that simple, due to the game allowing 1.0 players to import their old 1.0 character data into ARR, the game has to make allowances at the start due to many 1.0 players never having played 1.0 after SE added Jobs, and although putting some kind of flag to "upgrade" the 1.0 save data's class to a Job automatically would probably be possible, it might run into too many issues to bother with. Yes by now most old 1.0 players have long since returned, but there is still a lot out there that haven't, and with the whole who-ha over 1.0's failure, they're simply not going to throw 1.0 players under the bus again like that.

There is also lore at stake here - each class has an established Guild that's part of the storyline, the story outright says they're disciplines, and that the connected Jobs to them are rare or banned and you as the WoL restore them, so it makes no sense whatsoever to start as those Jobs, it's simple pragmatism. It would require all that story to be completely rewritten and everything currently existing retconned, which is just so offputting they'll never even consider it.

Certainly though there needs to be some kind of flag in post level 30 content at the very least, and especially by level 50 to require a Job's soul crystal to be equipped, although ironically the NPC fighters with the Company Squadron and now Duty Support only still have classes and they seem to manage just fine so, I don't know...

I still say Titan should be the cutoff point for classes. Have the Company of Heroes mention during their chain that only a truly exceptional adventurer would be worthy of their secrets, then prompt the player to go get their job stone. If you already have it, great, you can continue right away; if not, the quest locks until you equip one.

I'd be fine if they just added a job stone requirement for using the duty finder from Brayflox on. I also think they should do something when you hit level 30 and meet the MSQ requirements to basically say, go do your class/job quests to unlock your job and maybe halt MSQ progress until you do it as well as have an in game tutorial (that isn't just a text box) to show you how to equip your job stone.

I think there's an easy way to do this.
Wouldn't have to code to check things.

Just take every piece of equipment from 50+ and remove classes from it.
You can't equip ironworks, or anything at all better, without having a job stone on.

If you can't get above ilvl90, you can't enter most places.

It shouldn't be that hard to do now, when you think about it. The only abilities SCH shares with ACN are: Ruin, Physick and Resurrection. I'm excluding Summon because SCH learns it at level 4, whereas ACN learns it at level 2.

Hell, they could just remove SCH from the level 30-50 books and then remake SCH exclusive books for level 30-50 (give them the same name, but change it to "of Healing").

Not much to add really but it should be 34+ duties. You get first Job skill at 30 but second one at 35. To give some leeway and not be as strict.

So you could still do Qarn but not Cutters cry and onwards. The idea of MSQ asking you to get jobstone to prove your worth before 34 duty would fit great as well.

Easiest way to do this is to remove base jobs from any weapon / armor after lvl 32-35.

Doesn't prevent people from unequipping it after the fact though. It would take a deliberate act, but some people are . . . selfish is a nice way to put it.

This has been my stance on this as Brayflox is the 1st dungeon where you can't get anyone below lv30. It's also the dungeon I feel all jobs should have at least one Aoe. I hope Ninja and Dragoon in 7.0 will be given the ability to AoE that low, but since this hasn't been changed in 10 years I might need some of that hopium or w/e.

I’m not sure I understand the problem.

Your average new player still progresses the base class to level 30, and simply can’t get more xp (which ultimately gatekeeps content until job is unlocked). You can keep everything in tact including the crystals as a story thing. I am talking about removing the physical item that takes up inventory space. As in unequipping them is no longer an option.

If it was unclear, I meant a specific base class no longer exists for a specific player when they unlock a specific job, not a blanket game-wide “classes no longer exist”.

Regarding legacy players, if they can inject multi-point entry requirements for Crystal tower to proceed the MSQ, they can surely do it for the incredibly fringe/few 1.0 players that might decide to start playing FFXIV and import an old character. Worst case they just import as a level 50 with the same xp lock until they get their job.

The job crystals existed in 1.0 as well; it was class-only and Yoshida added them in in a patch update. If you remember the "have to be 30 on your main and 15 on another class" thing from 2.x before they abolished it in SB, I think, that was a holdover from 1.0.

And tbf, while I do like the dev team, if the portrait code can't auto-update my gear without my needing to go in and manually change it every time I upgrade a weapon or something, making the job crystals key items or auto-equipped probably isn't something that can happen either lol.
