And I get downvoted on Reddit for saying Emet-Selch is a bad person, too. Almost like they are both popular characters that people respond to. But I've never once seen it get as mean, self-important or ad-hominem as people get here. And believe me, I've looked quite a bit. In fact, I'd say that before Endwalker Reddit was as stridently pro-Emet as this thread, although still not as aggressive about it. They'll downvote you, they won't insult you.

Twitter is a sea of people yelling into a void, and Discord is an endless archipelago of disconnected islands. Yes, if you watch long enough you can see a general color, but if you can't find your people in either of them, you aren't looking hard enough. Believe me; I've been on all three of these sites, and I've found your people in all of them without trying.

(As an aside, from my observations the general color of Twitter about this is 'I want to smooch all of the Ancients, and hug Meteion' but the fanart share actually goes Fandaniel>Emet>Venat these days, and on Discord it's 'I don't really care, can we talk more about Sharlayan'.)

I'm gonna mostly avoid this conversation myself, though personally I came here because i was getting dogpiled elsewhere for saying my issues with Endwalker and I have not had heavy dogpiling so far.

To give some thoughts myself. I personally don't think this whole thing is unfixable, do some extra cutscenes in patches, talk far more about what venat did ect. What worries me more is IF there gonna do it as I notice a lot of writers in general tend to not attempt to fix things and prefer to go 'out of sight out of mind' with bad writing. Which itself worries me as I feel the Elpis stuff could act as a writing issue that could get worse over time vs say stormblood which was just boring with few greater implications than that

I feel like the alliance raids are the last chance they have to sort out some of the lingering questions about the timeline of the Ancients...though with them looking potentially take place in the past I'm actually a bit fearful things are going end up getting even more messed up as a result of the time-wimey nonsense.

I'm kind of half-expecting that the "seven heavens" mentioned in Eorzean folklore were originally airborne facilities akin to Elpis that were simply consigned to myth after the Sundering muddled everyone's memories and the Twelve simply officials or overseers whose works and deeds were significant enough to be known far and wide.

if its that, would pandaemonium be the seven hells? though if im not mistaken panda only has four layers.
personally i hope myths is used to expand on dynamis while expanding the worlds lore separate of the ancients.

I feel like they'd probably have needed multiple containment facilities like Pandemonium given the dangerously creative concepts the Ancients seemed weirdly prone to making.

Considering how eerily similar Hades' form is to the naldthal statue in Uldah im wondering if the twelve will be based on the convocation in some ways. Azeyma being another obvious one as well.

Anyway, I don't have any expectations for Pandemonium. It just seems like a side story to make Elidibus another BFF of Azem/WoL to further add to the tragedy. I know we've only gotten part 1, but I'm still disappointed so far that it's the Eric show. I don't particularly care about his character and, if I eventually do, it'll just be another to add to the "people who didn't deserve to be sundered" pile.

I'm not interested in revisiting Venat at all to "fix" anything. They made the choice to have the sundering be intentional, with knowledge of the future, and based on an individual's ideology. There isn't a way to fix that, they wrote themselves into a corner. Maybe someday we'll get thrown a bone that the Ancients are saved in an alternate timeline. Otherwise, I suppose her completely ceasing to be is some form of karmic justice even if the game doesn't treat it as such.

I don't see as to why ancients need a bone thrown at them. They were actively hostile to us and our existence, and their demise was their own making. Venat is gone for good and the rest who still exist in the aetherial sea will eventually be reborn to this flawed world, which by itself is sweet, sweet karma, but also the '' thrown bone '' depending on the perspective, as Gaia for example is surely doing her best to enjoy the world as it is now.

How were they hostile? Please tell me you know that the ascians and ancients are separate things. Their demise wasn’t their own making. In that case then the 8UC was the Sundered’s demise of their own making. The ancients themselves did nothing wrong.
