The 30 days applies to buy too. An alt put in today can't buy on the 11th.

The way they handled the Materia data centre has really dimmed my view of the devs, I gave up a large house to support the move and this feels like a slap in the face from them.

At this point the fact that I really love hanging out with the people in my FC is the only thing that will keep me in the game. If my second account doesn't get his house, that is a sub I will cancel for sure. I wonder how many people they will lose over this in the end tbh.

They had said in the live letter that it would also apply to giving members a rank with land acquisition privileges.

What is uncertain is if an alt could be added as a new member to a FC today and given a rank with land acquisition privileges, and would then retain the privilege once 6.1 is released since they would already have been given the rank and privilege under the current rules. SE doesn't tend to remove things retroactively.

At this point, there's no harm in trying just in case. It won't make a FC any worse off, and it might actually work to its advantage.

I saw that, but I still have to wonder if that's actually separate because during the live letter they said that members still in their new member period could not be granted the land acquisition privilege, not that there would be a blanket block regardless of what rank privileges they have.

Like I said, at this point it doesn't hurt a FC adding more alts to give it a try. They won't be any worse off if it doesn't work and it could be to their benefit if it does.

Regardless, it's only going to have a measurable impact on those who didn't prepared in advance. Those intending to abuse the system would have been stocking their FCs with the needed characters the week after the Live Letter if they hadn't already done it. Those characters will be past their 30 days by the time the patch is released (I'm assuming that will be April 12th). Flippers will still be able to get rid of their houses since they can move a 30-day character that wasn't the "buyer" into the FC master position then transfer the rest into a series of FCs rotating through buy/wait schedules. There's still a lot of holes in the system for flippers to slip through. Winning a lottery (once all the available plots are reduced to a few per lottery period) is more of a barrier than the new member restrictions, and they'll probably be able to make more money per sale from those not interested in fighting the lottery odds.

This has honestly just confirmed my move back to my old datacenter. I gave up my dream medium to come here for the good ping and hoped of getting another house but I feel like I've been spat on. If I'm going to suffer lottery I atleast want to be with my friends.

REALLY, SE? You couldnt have told us it was all FCFS BEFORE I transferred here and lost my dream plot? So many of us were betting on FCFS. Why put the effort into catering to the OCE playerbase if you don't even listen to our feedback?

SE only created materia to get the oceanics off elemental, or they will prove me wrong by acting on the feedback.

Devs have definitely let down those who moved to OCE to help support the server. I would find the lottery slightly more bearable if they allowed you to enter for other houses you could be potentially interested in, instead of being locked to one house for 4 days. You'll still be in the RNG system but at least you'll have a chance to get a spot you like. If you win more than one locations lottery, you'll be forced to pick one and let the lottery re-roll after it takes out your submission. They could honestly even tax people who have entries in different houses and people would still be happy, either that or lower it down the lottery to 24 hours.

I understand the lottery system would be more fair to the DC's with a huge population, but OCE is small in comparison. They should make at least the ARR house districts FCFS like how it first was (Granted back then there were less people) But that's more or less what OCE is like compared to the other data centers.

All we can do is hold out hope that the devs actually read these threads & comments and hope they address it in the live letter. Copingway fellow OCE house enthusiasts.
