its a good start but will not effect any ting in the over all. they sadly cant update the graphic engine. so better textures is goo as we get. what they really need is MORE PEOPLE working on the game.It seems like our prayers have been answered! While I doubt this will include the coveted butt slider, this may mean we will see a revisit to character customization in 7.0
What I really want to see is a separation of face locked aesthetics: let miqo'te choose their face markings, let Viera have their tattoos regardless of head choice etc etc
Oh and finally decouple au ra horns from heads.
The game really needs an engine update and I welcome the changes. Lighting, shadows and anti-aliasing are all noticeably terrible in this game in comparison to so many other MMOs it should actually be considered quite embarrassing. I dislike the current WoW game design direction but Blizzard always did a good job of adding modern rendering techniques to the game client with Shadowlands having modern ray traced shadows that require an RTX or RDNA2 (AMD) graphics cards. I'm playing this game on a PS5 and it's actually a pretty sub-par experience in my opinion because it looks bad and unlike an equivalently specced PC, doesn't even run as well at it should if it's going to look a old as it does at times.

I must be the only one not excited about this change. I don't want my miqote to have that toy doll look that Yshtola has in the EW intro cinematic and that's the direction I see this going...

I don’t think I that will happen. I don’t think they want overly realistic. And that doll looks overly realistically creepy.

I like the preview of the new character models so far. Better lighting and sharper textures etc. They could also increase the polygon count, IMHO.
Cheers

If you look at the Midlander's ears in the frontal comparison shot you'll notice they've actually got a more defined shape, so I think polygon count will go up

Yes, I think or at least hope they are starting with lighting and shaders but they HAVE, absoutely HAVE to touch the models and polygon count if this is to be a serious graphics update. I really hope they do, if they are going to take on a job as big as improving graphics they may as well do it right you know?
Am I the only one who thinks the first picture of Derplander upgraded (where he's facing forward) looks like a downgrade? The eyes feel a bit too far apart. The whole face looks better before.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D

Didn't see hroth but wondering if we might get some nice sort of fur shader... That could be pretty neat (which could also be applied to other fur objects, better fur on armors could be quite neat).
Another item I'd love if they could try to address during these multiple phases of upgrades is object view distance - there are a few really grand reaching views but they're a bit offset in 'grand'ness because there are a bunch of objects either missing or highly duplicated (in order to preserve memory of course, there is a reasons for it).
