I like the preview of the new character models so far. Better lighting and sharper textures etc. They could also increase the polygon count, IMHO.
Cheers

If you look at the Midlander's ears in the frontal comparison shot you'll notice they've actually got a more defined shape, so I think polygon count will go up
I don’t think I that will happen. I don’t think they want overly realistic. And that doll looks overly realistically creepy.

Yes, I think or at least hope they are starting with lighting and shaders but they HAVE, absoutely HAVE to touch the models and polygon count if this is to be a serious graphics update. I really hope they do, if they are going to take on a job as big as improving graphics they may as well do it right you know?
Am I the only one who thinks the first picture of Derplander upgraded (where he's facing forward) looks like a downgrade? The eyes feel a bit too far apart. The whole face looks better before.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
Didn't see hroth but wondering if we might get some nice sort of fur shader... That could be pretty neat (which could also be applied to other fur objects, better fur on armors could be quite neat).
Another item I'd love if they could try to address during these multiple phases of upgrades is object view distance - there are a few really grand reaching views but they're a bit offset in 'grand'ness because there are a bunch of objects either missing or highly duplicated (in order to preserve memory of course, there is a reasons for it).
Sorry but this so called update is a sick joke if that on screens is all what they have to offer. All i see is that they added a Darker Background an put some dirt on all of the character Faces. Yea the hair looks a bit darker, but thats thanks to the background and overall darker lightning of the images on the right side. The biggest joke is the miquote face, there is like no change at all if you would put both pictures on the same brightness level.
Ok they look a bit sharper which is nice but that change is also not that big if you are using 4k resolution
At least for us PC players there is already an option available since years that has just a minimal performance impact (depends on the settings) and looks way better that what they are trying to achieve even with the worst preset. If they really want to know how this game could like (since over 5 years) they should take a closer look at one of the dozens awesome reshade presets for this game and add the necessary settings and filters.
just a quick few examples that i had still on my HD of what is already possible with just a little effort. This game can really look amazing with the right filters, at least for PC users.

New Lala model looks great
That was my original joke, thank you.
The menacing aura of every Lalafell.
Those honestly look awful to me. The contrast is far too harsh and the colours are jarring.
The original shot of the three kids is a bit dark (though they're in a dark indoor area so not exactly strange) but the altered one looks unnatural. The daylit shot of Y'shtola and Urianger looks absolutely fine to begin with and horrible after.
The basic screenshots could do with a tiny increase of contrast and colour intensity, but not that extent.
