If anybody but the tank pulls it just means that the tank needs to quicken up, people don't have 900 years to wait for a pensioner. It's a bad mentality, yes. But if you're going to go ahead and pull additional without necessarily communicating this with either the tank or healer, then that's just as discourteous to them, really... Regardless of whether it is actually faster. As per my initial post, there's no excuse, but there's also no excuse for not running it by either the tank or the healer.
In any case, both of these situations happen in equal volume, I would argue.
Honestly, most of my experiences with this issue have just been that people haven't been comfortable enough to pull that much (Whether I agree with that or not is a different subject matter entirely), but have been receptive enough to pull more when it has been mentioned.
The only time I've encountered this issue personally is when people either do it very spontaneously without asking or when they insist on running around with the mobs playing a game of tag. The worst case I've had is a tank getting a little manic after a pull, but that's about it.
"you pull, you bring the adds into the Tank AOEs"
As a tank I will not run out of the WHM bubble, behind a pillar, out of placed DPS dots to grab the 1-2 monster that the ranged pulled for whatever reason.
If you want to help the tank with pulling, then actually help him and don't be a nuisance to him
Its actually simple:It's a bad mentality, yes. But if you're going to go ahead and pull additional without necessarily communicating this with either the tank or healer, then that's just as discourteous to them, really... - If tank literally said in chat "you pull - you tank", and go idle. You just votekick tank, and report them for harassment.
- If tank (or anyone else) asks you (not in rude form) to slow down (stop pulling), there where you all should find some compromise (check gear, skills, spells used correctly and correct mistakes or slowdown to make people to keep up or kick dude who does not comply)
It's even simpler. Don't pull it you are not the tank
Theirs exceptions to this
1. DPS aggressively doing DPS mid pull using their burst to grab aggro then stands far out of ranged, Like why are you using your burst when we're still pulling? and why are you making me move other or having to waste my time provoking/ranged attacking mobs, Its usually summoners or Rdm's doing this tbh.
2. Pulling mid cutscene, I've seen DPS, tanks and healers do this and honestly it's rude let people enjoy the story, I've seen this happen a lot Generally just don't pull the final boss as a DPS, even tanks should quickly check if anyone is watching a cutscene.
3. Pulling lots in a arr dungeon, sure try to tank it as tank but again sometimes tanks can't handle everything in arr dungeons, bonus points if the healer or tank doesn't have great gear and is new
Pulling generally as a DPS is perfectly fine, just stay close to your tank, When you queue up for a duty just don't expect every player to automatically be on the same page, sometimes it's peoples first times, Sometimes people are returning and rushing the dungeon to save time can end up wasting time.

Just going to remind people here that wiping is absolutely fine. Mess ups happen. Players are not robots.
What is not fine is being petty, not being able to compromise, letting someone die on purpose (because I as a healer can play this game too, I will focus on healing dps, because tank is busy playing "uwu dps dared to pull before me, his/her majesty", and I will let it slide once, but if you continue playing this bs, I will let you die while healing dps and then since you refuse to do your job on purpose, which is tanking, you will have to find another group because you're not staying in mine). The entire party sets up the pace, not just someone in particular.
Also, tank's job is to soak up damage, not pull ( unless it's raids ). Pulling can be done by anyone.
Better make space for teamplay, because no one has time for your ego play.
I suggest you redo the hall of the novice. Especially the tank part where new tank players get told how to pull. Guess who doesn't get told to pull? DPSJust going to remind people here that wiping is absolutely fine. Mess ups happen. Players are not robots.
