When ever I tank I always and always make sure with the healer if they prefer I go big or take chunks never know if someone is new to a raid and are unsure of mechanics not everyone will be on the same page.It is all down to lack of communication isn’t it.
It is the job for the tank to tank and the tank know how many he/she can handle.
If anyone feel the pull is too small, the first thing should ask the tank and heal if they can do a bigger pull.
There are no norm, it is a party decision.
When enmity was a team effort, someone not being a team player was a pain in the arse and I wouldn't try especially hard to save them from problems of their own making.
Now it's not a team effort, I just have to roll my face across my keyboard, so I don't really care.

As someone who always mains tank and healer classes in every game, if you are pulling as a DPS I will let you die and I will leave. You can find someone else who wants the headache of dealing with you.
Any good tank knows what their group can and cannot handle. Often, I'm teamed with a healer as a tank or vice-versa and we are in communication so I know if I need to slow down or not.
In the end, the important thing is: If you are DPS, your job is to kill the things the tank pulls. Period. If you want to pull, you should be playing a tank.
Why don’t you vote dismiss the early puller and see what happens?![]()
YPYT is the coward's mindset.
Ironic you say this when after a DPS pulls aggro they will come whimpering back looking for someone else to save them pretty sharpish.
They want to hope the healers in a forgiving mood if it happens, because I will quite happily let them keep the aggro![]()
a tank isn't the "leader" of a group. it takes 1 - 2 GCD AOES to pull every mob back onto you. if you know how to tank, rotating CDs isn't any more difficult with 10 mobs as there are with 3. as a tank main, i don't understand the YPYT mentality. grow up lol
edit: i don't have problems with DPS or healers pulling in front of me because i pop sprint and pull everything. and IF a dps or healer pull before me? i couldn't care less.

Lets put it this way. Had a twitchy, jump happy Black Mage decide he was going to sprint ahead and pull at the onset of Mt. Gulg.
All this while I was setting everything up, tank stance, bit of food, making sure everything was set for monster pulls (that you can actually do in that instance).
Dude lasted about 3 hits before I got there and got my first AoE in.
Moral of the story: If you can't take a few hits, don't go in front of the tank whether you're a healer or a dps.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
You know, you can pop your stance and food as soon as you load into the dungeon, before you can even leave the little cutscene circle. Failing that, you can do it while running towards the first pack. How'd you let the BLM take three attacks before catching up? Did you not use sprint? Did you not gap-close? Personally, I'd be ashamed of myself if I let a DPS die because I was spending too much time at the start of the dungeon "activating my tank stance" .Lets put it this way. Generally I do, and generally I am the first one out of the gate sprinting away. You know, you can pop your stance and food as soon as you load into the dungeon, before you can even leave the little cutscene circle. Didn't happen this time for some reason or another. Was I being malicious? No. They just out paced me. BLM's have a much longer range than tanks do. Did I giggle a bit and then sigh afterwards when they bit the dust? Neither confirm nor deny.
Choices and actions have consequences and that BLM learned them. Hopefully they don't repeat.
