Something needs to be done about the state of Gil in FF14

Gil is too hard to obtain.

    Let me clarify.

Gil is too hard to obtain because selling items on the market is only something that can be done by people who are online the most amount of time. Selling anything is nearly impossible if you are not on at least 8 hours a day, or undercut to such an extreme severity that the people (or bots I honestly dont know) are forced to buy your item because they will make back their money. I have had the same 30-40 items on the market for weeks, and I do check for undercuts several times a day, but its not enough.

Since I came back to the game right before 6.0 launched, there are people standing by the retainer bells that have literally been in the SAME EXACT SPOT since I returned. I cant post an item in the market without it being undercut by 1 gil in less then 15 minutes. I've tested this multiple times.

I've been under 100k for...oh man I dont even know how long. Materia is basically my only source of income but oh hey...I usually need those!

This wasnt such a big problem during earlier versions of the game because items such as materia were not given to people by the fistful....so you could sell just a few and be set for a good amount of time. I understand the idea of making certain items more accessible for casual players, but yall went crazy with the Materia.

Im a pretty casual player, but Im online quite a bit, doing all but the most HC content...and the gil you get from doing any of that is nonexistent. The gil given for queing as an adventurer in need has been low since the system came out if you ask me.

I dont really talk to a whole lot of people in game, so I cant say for sure if a lot of people have this problem or not. But I have thought up at least one solution that would not only enable people to make gil a bit easier, but improve the health of the economy as a whole. Add a timer on anything posted to the market that prevents removal until the timer has ended. Another solution COULD be to merge the market of servers on a single datacenter. However...its probable that would just exacerbate the issue.

Or make it simple and add a way to convert items bought in the store into gil. Im so glad I'm not on Gilgamesh tbh...

I did a treasure map the other day by myself. Got a Shell Leather. Sold it for 300k (ish).

I'd say you aren't trying ... at all really.

tl;dr: gil is not hard to obtain.

    long version:

The market is entering the slump period between patch. Under cutting is the least of your problem, the market is simply saturated at this point with very little demand.

I've been under 100k for...oh man I dont even know how long. Materia is basically my only source of income but oh hey...I usually need those!
Can't have a cake and eat it too. Materia is about the only thing left the can be sold reliably. And why you would still need them if you had played since 6.0 launch? Just hunt for one week and you have more than materia to drown yourself in, the rest is simply surplus that can be sold.

Im so glad I'm not on Gilgamesh tbh...
And this is where you're wrong. You need to ask yourself: what do you need Gil for?

    - If you need gil simply for the shake of hoarding gil, then like I said you missed the window.

    - If you need gil in or to spend gil, Gilgamesh is like one the best server to be on. Everything is so cheap that your even your passive weekly income will be more than enough. I craft, but for the last 2 months or so I had stopped crafting and selling anything. I just buy everything I need from the MB. And even as someone who raid heavily, my money is increasing even with me buying stacks and stacks of consumable every week.

    - And I don't even sell materia, I barely do any hunt yet I have enough to meld 2 sets or more.

tl;dr 2.0: if you had played since launch of 6.0 and actively trying to make gil, the fact your money is not moving meaning there is something seriously wrong with the way you're managing your money. The ratio between money-generating activity vs buying power is currently the best it has ever been in the 10 years life of this game.

Not while Thavnairian onions exist. I and many others rake in several million gil each week just for watering some plants. Factor in several million more from selling materia, and you've got a clear and easy path to gil cap.

I used to think gil was hard to obtain.

Then I leveled my gatherers and checked what could be sold at a good price.

Since then, getting gils dosen't seem all that difficult. And I'm sure there are other ways you can make some if you're not interested in gathering.

Gil is probably the second easiest currency to obtain in this game. The first is poetics. lol You don't need to be on all day to make a profit. Heck, I've put stuff up for sale before going to bed and logged back in later on the following day and had plenty of gil waiting for me. You just need to know what sells and how to obtain items to sell. And you clearly don't have that knowledge. I would also be willing to bet that you aren't trying very hard either, if at all.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

The people above who are all saying that gil is easy to obtain probably think 1M a day is some big number LOL

Back in Heavensward/Stormblood you could make 600M in a week for Savage tiers.

Ironworks crafter set and Heavy Metal crafted set were going for like 1-3M per piece during content drought. Compare that to what we have now, the equivalent of which is 30k crafted rings.

So yeah, gil has gotten harder to obtain.

The people who are shaming you, OP, are probably not that good at making gil in the first place, don't worry.

OP was speaking about 100k gils. You are speaking about millions/hundreds of millions...
Getting dozens of millions might be harder than it was before.
Getting a couple hundred ks/mils is still quite easy.
But we also have things like the increase of teleport costs, which I am sure can impact a lot of casual players who do not bother doing any hunts. etc.

And you're gullible if you think OP is talking about himself.

This is utter nonsense. I've made 2 million over the last two weeks not even TRYING to make gil. I haven't been doing dungeons, I've just been doing side things I feel like doing and sending out my retainers every day.

I used up about 6 million fixing up an apartment and made it back in about 3 weeks of barely trying.

There isn't anything in the game you actually need gil in the first place for and I'm sitting on around 20 million with nothing to do with it.
