MSQ should be optional.

I am afraid you are in the wrong game
FFXIV is quite typical JRPG where dialogue after dialogue and story focus.
I agree the MSQ in DT is pretty weak, but if you looking for MMO that rush to level cap and there’s where content began I think you need to find Korean/Chinee or Western MMORPG
Assuming much, don't you think?I am afraid you are in the wrong game

I love the MSQ story, even DT I liked. Even so, I don't think it should be a gatekeeper for people who don't like it, people with low attention span or whatever issue.
Even if I find Shakespeare one of the best writers of all time (I have read probably half of his work and still reading) I don't think everyone must read for whatever arbitrary rule.
This is a game, it's not school or a job.
What some people might find boring shouldn't ever be obligation.
Not really, just thinking a story focus RPG(semi MMO) where at least half of the content are fill in MSQ and skipping it seem very odd option.Assuming much, don't you think?

The typical jRPG has five times as much gameplay as XIV's MSQ, and pace the battles and exploration a lot better between the event scenes.I am afraid you are in the wrong game

Honestly, not always for the better, IMO.
I really liked Metaphor: Refantazio, but the dungeons are just so boring. If you look at modern story-driven games nowadays, the best ones often put gameplay and story into one cohesive thread, and not split it up like most JRPGs.
If Metaphor: Refantazio did not cut any story but cut down half of its gameplay IMO it would have been a very good game (9/10). But it's just so bloated to me that it's more like an 8. I think sometimes it's better to not just put gameplay in between story beats for the sake of putting gameplay in. Sadly that's something that plagues nearly every studio now because playtime is a selling point for a lot of people.
Of course, FF14 is so far down the gameplay-story ratio that it's barely more than a visual novel. Which is fine if the story was engaging, but it's not. Even HW and ShB had dumb filler all over the place.
But you're right, in that most JRPGs actually have far more gameplay than the FF14 MSQ.
I am probably the minority, I don’t really mind visual novel. I love the deliveroo simulator aka Death Stranding so much. However, like you said DT is rather weak on the story telling side. Actually I think story telling in FFXIV was never a very strong point, it was okayish but DT just fall below and the issue of lacking gameplay become more obvious because of that
I thought the MSQ was bad before it was cool.
This game's decline into shit writing can be traced back to 6.0, Myths of the realm and especially 6.1-5.
Dawntrail is just the latest heap for the pile imo.
