Agreed. And I never even considered myself an ascian fan...more like I just happened to consider them and the ancients in general as just more interesting to me than the scions could ever be. The game can push themes in my face all it wants but I don't have to agree with it. Some people act like if you don't agree with venat/hydaelyn your morals are questionable irl or something. I just never took kindly to being "assigned" a side and being expected to blindly follow that side. No 3rd way forward, no alternate ways to deal with things, no it's just "this is how it will end up and this is how it would always end up and you're also part of it because we put you in a time loop." For all the times we've "stood against fate" with the scions, it sure is funny to suddenly be set upon a course we can't escape no matter what.I'd love to know where people are giving Emet a free pass because pretty much every Ascian fan I know has been pushing for some sort of 'third way forward' or 'alternate universe' instead of mass genocide.
It's the Venat fans who seemingly find ways to excuse genocide as a necessity - but only when 'mOmMy' does it and calls the player character a brave little spark after being given every possible advantage to ensure their victory.
But you give your perspective on things and a lot of the responses from the GCBTW is usually along the lines of telling you that you didn't pay attention to the story or that you're a minority so your opinion doesn't count lol. It's literally a game story, it's not that deep (even though it tries to portray itself as deep unsuccessfully IMO).
While I agree with it, Final Fantasy as a whole has always been about the story and the content. Not just one or the other. For the first time in the series a game can actually be enjoyed without liking the story.. that's weird, and new for a lot of us here. Don't be surprised if you don't always get the reaction you intended with posts like this. The cult-like fanaticism surrounding the game's story is honestly scary at times.
Here are two very easy things for the fanatics to comprehend:
1. It is perfectly valid for someone to not like the story and still enjoy the rest of FF14!
2. Everyone has different tastes and there is enough content in FF14 that isn't the MSQ for new players! (vets might feel differently though...)
I don't care what people say, that this is an "RPGMMO" (idiotic statement), or this is a "Final Fantasy first", or whatever other excuse. Next time someone says they find the MSQ boring, lay off the well trodden path of common refrains and just say "that's fine" and continue on with your day.
I don't get why so many mentors feel the need to beat sprouts who complain about the MSQ into submission!! Stop telling people to unsub or quit or that "this game is not for you" when someone complains about the MSQ. Maybe they're all the way in ShB while skipping cutscenes because... Oh God, can you believe it, they like other parts of the game enough to tolerate the story!
Oh, and btw I personally like the story: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...azing-Spoilers
I just don't feel the need to trash on people who don't!
Honestly considering making this my next signatureYou are complaining about the work of others but don't want to be attacked in turn?
You make me laugh, i love watching bullies get the karma sowed for their unasked for opinions when launched at the very same fan base of said game.
Share your opinion but expect the same rebuttals when you do, don't want it? Choose silence then.
Oh this is betterNatsuko Ishikawa a Japanese writer working for Square Enix. Originally brought on as additional staff for the writing team of the relaunched Final Fantasy XIV, she has been co-lead writer for the game since its Stormblood expansion, becoming the main lead in Shadowbringers.
She received a standing ovation for her continued work in FFXIV & is beloved by the fan base & is the recipient of many accolades to include garnering awards for FFXIV being one of the most celebrated MMORPG's directly due to the writing of it's MSQ.
Masayoshi Soken video game composer and sound editor who has worked for Square Enix since 2001. Soken is best known for being the lead composer and sound director of Final Fantasy XIV and its expansions.
Actively wrote the game music for FFXIV from his hospital bed when diagnosed with cancer, has gone on to receive multitudes of awards & acclaim for much of his work.
Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi P, he's kind of a big deal not only in FF circles but also a Titan in the industry for pulling off the once believed impossible. I wont bother listing it all but there are not one but two documentaries covering his work & he gives seminars on leadership & game design among other things.
Here's the thing, you want to be nice & safe, criticizing the work of others without having it done in return.
Not the way it works, ever.
As i stated before you may share your opinion but expect the same rebuttals when you do.
The sudden explosion in popularity of this game showed what long times fans already knew, the dev team, everyone involved poured a great deal of work in to it, then it's a good thing you expected my response, i'll be happy to keep giving it.
I can take the criticism & welcome the discussion.
the people ive seen asking "not to be shamed" for liking the msq always same the same 2 things.
* > Wuk lmao is a great character if you hater her then *various political assumptions*
* > The story is ok to be bad because its "an anime beach episode"
(( where do people even get this from? its actually comical to think a FINAL FANTASY title would have the audacity to do that. this game might look like an anime, might even follow anime tropes. but it is NOT an anime. there is no high school episode, there is no shipping wars and there is no BEACH episode. sorry?))
here's my issue with this post if u dont like the story then why are you playing a story driven mmo which is what final fantasy 14 is because everything is locked behind an msq quest or a piece of story and im not gonna shame someone for asking if it gets better cuz i know ARR can be rough and stormblood can be rough as well but I think the story for most of the expansions are great and set up later expansions exponentially well... people who skip cutscenes know nothing about why they are fighting a boss or why they came upon this town and that to me takes the fantasy out of the game but if u dont watch those early cutscenes and get through it then when u do start paying closer attention then u end up being confused as to whats going on cuz u missed something even the crystal tower of ARR sets up shadowbringers 30 levels later and stormblood even tho its not my favorite expansion sets up endwalker nicely... of course people are gonna get upset when someone says they skip cutscenes in this game because its a story driven game and people cant understand why someone who hates the story would even dream of playing a game that obviously has lots of cutscenes i mean at one point they had to take away the ability to skip cutscenes in castrum meridianum and the praetorium because new players complained that veteran players were forcing them to skip all cutscenes integral to the story due to the fact that they couldnt move until those players did so which is why we no longer have important story cutscenes in dungeons anymore and there was no way at the time to watch those cutscenes over again so i dont get why people hate the story as a whole cuz its honestly great despite the fact that it can be slow at times
Thanks for the necro, we really did not have enough complaints about the current state of the game. Adding a complaint from 2022 to the list surely makes for a nice change of pace.
The length to which some people go to stirr up the kettle are really fascinating...
what about leaving old post dead and to answer your question like or hating a story is no one business at all there is other things to the game then story keep that in mind before wasting people timehere's my issue with this post if u dont like the story then why are you playing a story driven mmo which is what final fantasy 14 is because everything is locked behind an msq quest or a piece of story and im not gonna shame someone for asking if it gets better cuz i know ARR can be rough and stormblood can be rough as well but I think the story for most of the expansions are great and set up later expansions exponentially well... people who skip cutscenes know nothing about why they are fighting a boss or why they came upon this town and that to me takes the fantasy out of the game but if u dont watch those early cutscenes and get through it then when u do start paying closer attention then u end up being confused as to whats going on cuz u missed something even the crystal tower of ARR sets up shadowbringers 30 levels later and stormblood even tho its not my favorite expansion sets up endwalker nicely... of course people are gonna get upset when someone says they skip cutscenes in this game because its a story driven game and people cant understand why someone who hates the story would even dream of playing a game that obviously has lots of cutscenes i mean at one point they had to take away the ability to skip cutscenes in castrum meridianum and the praetorium because new players complained that veteran players were forcing them to skip all cutscenes integral to the story due to the fact that they couldnt move until those players did so which is why we no longer have important story cutscenes in dungeons anymore and there was no way at the time to watch those cutscenes over again so i dont get why people hate the story as a whole cuz its honestly great despite the fact that it can be slow at times![]()
