Can we not shame people who don't like the MSQ?

The cult-like fanaticism surrounding the game's story is honestly scary at times.

Here are two very easy things for the fanatics to comprehend:

1. It is perfectly valid for someone to not like the story and still enjoy the rest of FF14!

2. Everyone has different tastes and there is enough content in FF14 that isn't the MSQ for new players! (vets might feel differently though...)

I don't care what people say, that this is an "RPGMMO" (idiotic statement), or this is a "Final Fantasy first", or whatever other excuse. Next time someone says they find the MSQ boring, lay off the well trodden path of common refrains and just say "that's fine" and continue on with your day.

I don't get why so many mentors feel the need to beat sprouts who complain about the MSQ into submission!! Stop telling people to unsub or quit or that "this game is not for you" when someone complains about the MSQ. Maybe they're all the way in ShB while skipping cutscenes because... Oh God, can you believe it, they like other parts of the game enough to tolerate the story!

My two cents:

- It's perfectly valid to not like the MSQ. It's long and not everyone has the attention span for it.

- I don't think it's a bad idea to suggest to someone who is struggling to enjoy the game due to MSQ to consider playing something else.

Whether you like the MSQ or not, everything is basically locked behind it....so kinda have to suck it up and deal at the end of the day. Or you can hand over your credit card and pay to skip 80% of it, however you'll still have to play through Endwalker MSQ to unlock all of the current content.

The problem isn't people who don't like the MSQ, the problem is that a lot of people who didn't like it want to shove it in everyones face or are extremely hyperbolic about it.
It becomes hard to have a discussion or take it seriously when in 9 out of 10 cases people talk about it like it's the worst thing ever created.
It's the same with TLOU2 which you brought up there are very valid criticisms one can have about the game and so do I.
I didn't like it at all.
But TLOU2 wasn't a crime against humanity, and playing the game wasn't literaly torture.

Edit: This isn't even getting into people who boosted ( or skipped all dialogue ) and yet feel like they can talk about the MSQ.

I must say that I've almost never seen that kind of rhetoric directed against the MSQ in FF14. Most of the time it's just something benign like "the story is so boring does it ever get good ", and someone else chimes in and says "yeah I'm just skipping all the cutscenes", and that's enough fuse to light up the fireworks.

Regarding your edit though, if you're talking about that one particular streamer (or multiple) then yeah, they kinda deserve the eye rolls.

You are complaining about the work of others but don't want to be attacked in turn?

You make me laugh, i love watching bullies get the karma sowed for their unasked for opinions when launched at the very same fan base of said game.

And how 'bout when people are actively seeking to verbally abuse new leaves that happened to ask, nicely, if the story quits being so slow? It's pretty much universally agreed upon that ARR sucks, and you don't really start playing the game until Heavensward. The majority of complaints people have about the MSQ are in fact tied to the base game. The vast majority of conversations I've witnessed on this subject have indeed pertained to ARR, and they have generally consisted of an innocent question followed by the person that asked it being barraged by all manner of hostility.

If you consider this innocent question to be bullying, then I would strongly encourage you to avoid contact with the majority of the internet.
