Is rogue the final fantasy 14 Thief job?

Random question for the day as I do not post a lot in the community but always worth putting out new ideas. Was thinking about traditional final fantasy jobs and know thief has been in the games in the series over the years. I have not really dived into rogue class but does it work like the traditional thief jobs in the series or is there actually room in the future for a thief job class?

That sounds like an idea completely incompatible with MMO design. Especially as streamlined as XIV's.

Oh I know about this question! Yoshi was asked before about Thief in the past (I don't remember how long ago but it was back in the day) and said he didn't add the job because it was not a "honorable" kind of job that a WOL would have. However in the end of SHB we see a WOL from a different shard as a Thief. So I think Yoshi clearly sees nin and thf as different things but I don't know if we will ever get it.

It has Mug.
That's literally all the Thief job ever has.

Green bandana: check
Knives and daggers: check
Steal/Mug: check

Upgrades to Ninja just like FF1: check

Additional Effect: Increases the chance of additional items being dropped by target if Mug is dealt before, or as, the finishing blow.

Technically it has Mug and IIRC way back in the day it had poisons that could be applied? It's been ages so I can't recall everything about that last point.

It does kinda suck that it upgrades into NIN and loses the more thiefy feel. I almost wish they had done a SCH/SMN there.

This argument always seemed weird because, even if he did steal, you can't find a more honorable person than Zidane Tribal. Our WoL could follow that pattern.

Which is funny considering some of our existing jobs are heretical (dark knight), illegal (black mage, white mage for non-Padjals), or otherwise involve Bad Things one wouldn't expect of a hero (reaper, summoner to an extent).

Rogue feels more like an assassin to me than Zidane type of thief.
