Bow jobs leave an odd taste in my mouth.
Bow jobs leave an odd taste in my mouth.
Jokes aside, I'd love a Ranger class that has its quests about learning to use traps and be ~in tune with nature~ and stuff like that
i was about to say "me too buddy" but then i re-read the name of the thread
while more bow/archery stuff would be cool, it's kind of hard (from at least my uninitiated point of view when it comes to archery) to make it stand out from bard. unlike archery (as far as i know) there are many different kinds of swords and different types of styles of swordplay (paladin is your typical sword and board, samurai uses eastern sword techniques, dark knight uses big honkin 2h swords, manatriggers and the like lean more heavily into fantasy elements and the animations seem more frenetic compared to the slow and methodical swordplay employed by paladins and dark knights, red mages use their magic to augment their fencing)
I was really looking forward to being an archer, only to find out that if I actually want to progress I have to go Bard (Believe me, I refused to use the Job crystal as long as I could). Maybe if we get a non-Bard Archer job we can bring back Flaming Arrow. Perhaps a Freezing Arrow that works similar to NIN's Doton.
If Uniqueness is an issue, then it could be focused on AOEs.

A javelin thrower would be cool, perhaps like Warden in Lord of the Rings Online. In that game, it is a tank class with a spear to poke, a shield to bash, and a javelin to throw, and Warden can traited into a ranged spec that throw javelins 24/7. Removing the tank aspect in FF14 to make a physical ranged job, I would love a javelin + shield job. The shield doesn't make it a tank class, but more like for self-protection than protecting the ally.
I'd love to play a crossbow wielding job class! Maybe mix it up with Chemist and we could have a class that specializes in coating crossbow bolts with various kinds of effective poisons that cause various kinds of harm and ailments to their foes. Effectively giving us a DoT physical support range class.
Another idea: What about sling shots as a weapon? Not sure if you watch anime OP, but there's this character called Usopp in an anime called One Piece that uses a large two handed sling shot to shoot his foes with all kinds of crazy projectiles. It would be amazing to see something like that in this game, too. At least, I think it would be cool, lol. xD
Here's a pretty cool picture of Usopp in action with his slingshot:

There's no point in adding a job that will be DOA.
If SE can't balance Phys Ranged properly, no one's gonna want to play the new weakest job.
Crossbow would be cool.
Was there a single person who asked for Archers to turn into Bards with bows? Or who asked for Bards with bows? I don't understand who this game's version of Bard was meant to appeal to since it fails at being a traditional fantasy Bard or fulfilling the want for a bow class.
As far as ranged jobs go... a cross bow could be cool, but I think it'd be extra awesome if they went the route of, Throwing Spear / Javelin type hunter.
Think like a Pleistocene era hunter, bringing down a mammoth with a flint throwing spear.
Or a Roman legionnaire throwing a pilum.
A Zulu warrior with Assegai.
A Goth or Frank with an Angon.
