I'm really eager for another bow job.

I know there's a lot of ideas for potential new jobs floating around already, but as someone who enjoys the typical 'ranger', 'thief' or 'sniper' class fantasy in videogames I'd like to propose a variant of archer as a fully fleshed out job in the future.

I'm not fond of bard as it leans on using instruments and although it does wield a bow I think we could have something that uses a crossbow instead. After all, there's already multiple jobs that use swords so I don't think it'd be too jarring to have another bow wielder!

Crossbows are also arguably well suited to having some interesting designs - both in terms of the weapon itself and the bolts wielded as ammo. If it wasn't for Bozja effectively establishing that Beastmasters wield an axe and shield, I'd suggest that a crossbow wielding pet job could be a thing.

I'm curious as to whether there's even demand for a crossbow wielding job though - so feel free to discuss it within this thread and share any ideas of your own!

A ranger type would be great. Bard is cool but I was a bit disappointed I couldn't just... you know, stay an archer.

I see no reason as to why we cannot have a Hunter class that wields a crossbow and functions similar to a "ranged Reaper" in regards to abilities that call forth a smaller amount of higher-quality animals as opposed to a huge swathe of enemy mobs whose model quality has varied wildly over the years.

Hunters/animal tamers/beastmasters are a widely popular archetype and their addition to the game is long overdue as a full-fledged job.

Same here. Even worse though because I really like ranger type jobs, and I also really like the support/buffer bard type jobs, and having the half and half we got kinda scraped the possibility of either of them.

Have to say i wholeheartedly agree. Always dreamed of having a time mage job that used a crosssbow and revolved around utilizing time to create cool effects with the crossbow bolts.

I agree completely. I've long loved ranger types in fantasy material but my interest in BRD basically died before I even reached level 50.

While there definitely is a place for a crossbow using job overall, it wouldn't really be to my tastes. I personally just want a good old bow using character that isn't tied down by being a bard as well. It's doesn't even have to have the pet/companion element that a lot of typical rangers have.

Ranger will fit the new world aesthetic well. I'm not confident that SE can deliver a fleshed-out pet job though so I'd rather not have animal companions.

If they were to make a ranger job, it would have to be sufficiently different from both bards and machinists. A good way is to let the ranger lean into its affinity for nature and give it druid-like spells/abilities. The weapon can be some kind of conjured bow to differentiate it from regular bows/MCH's crossbow.

Back when I first started the game I actually picked archer because I was under the impression that I'd stay an archer. Alas, that was not the case at all...
