I think they change things all the time, and the color matches enough. So we have lore that says it is just a sea serpent, and you have the mouth looks most similar. Also Levi is supposed to be a sea dragon, which is what the top purple/pink one looks like. But like I said before, we won't know for sure until it comes out.

That's the thing, we don't even know if it was supposed to be Leviathan or not. It may have, it may still be, or maybe not at all. But from rendering of the two, the second one, the pink/purple sea dragon, is way bigger.

just a thought... what's stopping them BOTH being leviathan? If they're simply the physical avatars of the astral being, he could have been summoned a long time ago, and have grown intensely strong and have become the beast from the opening. After all, it was said that Garuda was summoned ages ago by the Ixali, and just recently re-emerged again.

I guess you have a point, but they took look a little bit too different.

Makes sense for them to just make a smaller version for Primal fights/Grand Company Primal summoning. Less strain on the server if you pull out the smaller Leviathan in a huge PvP war with hundreds of people fighting each other.

The thing is never called leviathan directly by npcs yes. How ever these are the same npc's that don't believe you saw it to begin with. There also hesitant to call anything leviathan due to one very specific reason. You know the limsa catch phrase "Till sea swallows all"? Part of the leviathan mythos according to residents of la nocea is that when Leviathan appears he will flood the world.


That's why seal rock and its reappearance in the limsa story is very significant. Leviathan was said to have been imprisoned there after the last time he left the hose running on the world so to speak. So armed with these nuggets of lore one would not be incorrect by making a guess that the sea serpent is leviathan. As to the radical differences between the two models its not that large of a leap to assume that both are leviathan. The larger tanaka era leviathan was meant to be a force of nature a literal World Ender. The new sleeker yoshida era leviathan is meant for us to be able to fight and interact with.


That being said i do hope they can find a way to keep both models around, the idea of that giant bastard swimming around in the game world makes me smile.
