Isn't this sort of content (roulettes, side content, deep dungeons) supposed to be insanely fun and done only for the sake of playing the game? Why do people stop doing it once they get their rewards?
Only place I've ever seen this behavior was in looter shooter games like Warframe and Destiny and wow and it is a pervasive problem of content not being future proofed.

Same goes for bozja and eureka, I believe castrum lacus litore died on the same patch it was released and required multiple buffs over the course of 5.x patches to make it populated, and same goes for delubrum reginae savage, which was dead 1 week after its release.
Starting this discussion with MSQ roulette specifically is why your position is misguided. If "MSQ roulette" involved actually replaying selections from the bulk of MSQ, it would be "insanely fun." But that is not what MSQ roulette is.

Also, I have already commented elsewhere that the MSQ roulette problem (and by extension other grindy things you listed) is due to XIV having a system that over-incentivizes/requires leveling jobs as opposed to giving players other, self-saken rewards for repeating content.

Personally, I think that now multiclassing is no longer a thing, the job-specific experience system should be abandoned. I'm not against having some kind of progression system in "leveling up jobs," but it should be much shorter and quest-driven to obtain more abilities, not a leveling grind.

Does... FFXIV actually incentivize leveling jobs? Crafters and Gatherers, sure, but I thought people leveled, say, multiple types of DPS or what not for fun / completionism sake, or did I miss something?

Kinda. There's titles for it, and getting everything to 80 gives you an amaro mount. Depends what you consider incentive really. I also like having one of each role to flex when I do roulettes with friends, but I only actually put effort into everything when they added the mount lol

That's where you're wrong. That type of content (MSQ roulette) is not fun at all. You forgot something very important. The reason people do msq roulette nowadays is for the exp, which is why they had to buff castrum and praetorum xp rewards due the unskippable cs changes.

So, as they have no need to level aything else, MSQR is a chore for them.

The incentives for me are initially seeing the job quest stories, as some provide interesting world-building, and then getting access to specific glamours that you can only equip as a level 90 XYZ (or whatever).

I've lost enthusiasm for levelling everything just because, particularly as I've spread my effort across a few characters and won't be unlocking all the jobs on any single one, but glamour is the consistent motivator to make me pick up a new class – or more often an old class on a new character.

LMAO The one I originally copied had a bunch of emojis and stuff in it so I could have gone that route and blinded everyone with Comic Sans AND different coloured fonts with ridiculous emojis! Or I could have gone the uwu-fied route and really burned some eyes lol.

I have all my jobs at 90, but I run it every day for the astronomy tomestones. However, I only need 500 of them to buy my weapon after next week's raid.

When I do run it, I watch videos on my other screen during the cutscenes, so there isn't much real waiting.

personally i do things that i have time for and sometimes i might rotate stuff to break the routine just to keep things from getting stale. granted i havent gotten all my jobs to 90 yet so i try to do certain roulettes daily for leveling and farming tomestones for gear but different people set different goals so once they get that they will work on other stuff. personally i still want to farm missing mounts and stuff i havent gotten and being as time is limited day to day they have to find ways to fit stuff like that in.

Man, I don't even do MSQ on classes I have to level, sure, I possibly lose a whole level worth of exp, but I really can't be bothered to sit through something that feels like a job while playing a game. I am glad they are removing it, at the very least I won't have to convince my brain to not take advantage of a shortcut.
