It's very weird to me that every time a new MMO opens up, this community is always quick with being tribalistic and passive-aggressive towards it.

Like, not even "funny" weird, just genuinely off-putting.

What new mmo that has come out actually met expectations and didn't quietly die down to niche status or shut down? Cuz I cannot recall a single one in recent years.

I have a coworker who is fanboying all over the place over this game and wants me to play (he's been watching Twitch shills). I basically talked him into playing FFXIV so I can't really just tell him to P*** off. SO I think I'm going to be forced to play through it's lackluster (so I hear) MSQ.

I've heard some reports that the story is not necessarily bad. Generally, I haven't found that review sites and the like are very good at reviewing the story of a game. Often they don't pay enough attention, especially if the game is endgame focused.

On the other hand, by the sounds of it, good luck finding a server to play on. xD

So the lost ark story isn't bad perse it's totally nowhere near as good as ffxiv however it's serviceable to good the game really shines with it's gameplay if you are into diablo style combat lots of mobs exploding bits etc. the nice thing is it is pretty easy to jump in then put down and it's also free is it my main MMO no did it replace my backup which is the ole trusty WoW yes. My recommendation give it a shake like it is great hate it uninstall and tell your friend just not my style.

Nah, Lost Ark's story is mind-numbingly boring. I'm really just playing it for the PvP and I enjoy the class design.

I tried lost ark for 2 days now and feel like I wasted my money. I think Final Fantasy 14 has spoiled me. I cant get out of the prologue or tutorial or whatever its called. Its boring, the spells dont feel like they are snappy and responsive, Ive heard better voice acting from like $5 adult games on steam. The graphics feel dated and the characters are oversexualized, especially the females. The story so far is non-existant. Quests are too short and meaningless. I thought it looked like a mobile game before I played it. Now that ive played it, it looks and feels like a mobile game.

Also, a gender locked game with character creation in 2022? lolol.

And yes. It is 100% pay to win. Asmongold leveled up yesterday by opening a loot crate item on stream. He got exp for open a chest lmao.

I started playing ARPGs with a Diablo 1 demo PC-CDROM I got free as a kid with a PCGamer magazine. Ive been around the isometric arpg genre and mmorpg's since Ruins of Kunark. I kinda hate Lost Ark but im going to keep giving a chance for a bit longer.

Btw, if one likes isometric ARPGs, I recommend checking out Last Epoch. It's in Early Access and in the process of adding multiplayer atm I believe, but it's a blast and I'm eagerly awaiting the full release.
