    Tales of Adventure question

If one were to buy one of the tales of adventure packs, does it finish the level 80 quest for the class, or will we still be able to finish it after the purchase? Planning on getting one of the packs for one of the lower level jobs ive got

The Lv80 quest will be complete but you can /newgame+ it. You can unlock /ng+ by talking to an NPC just outside the Waking Sands.

I just started and actually got a couple of these as I misunderstood the situation with FF XIV. I sort of expected it to be abandoned through most of the content like my returns to WoW, and it seemed that way at the very beginning when I saw nobody when I first walked into the adventurer's guild. I as I wanted to see the story I planned to blitz the low level content with some high level jobs, and join the community at the endgame. This turned out to be a big waste of $ as people appeared as soon as I left the adventurer's guild and was heading for the nearest delivery moogle.... including a lot of fellow newbies/returnees. Should teach me about jumping the gun and making assumptions.... but it probably won't.

At any rate the items DO indeed finish all the quests for a job, so you won't be able to do the job stories (I found out about this after the fact as well) so I basically wound up cutting myself out of content on top of spending the money. I didn't quite grasp all the angles involved. Reading here though you can eventually see the missing content through the NG+ option down the road, so it's probably not going to be that huge a deal.

To get the full experience I'm currently starting at level 1, and ignoring the jobs I unlocked for the moment.... In your case since your apparently already established I would only consider using one of these tomes if your doing it for a job you don't want to do the storyline for unless your very patient and want to wait a long time to see it.

I'd also carefully consider what jobs your considering on raising, see being a moronic newbie I didn't read all the guides first and didn't realize that some jobs start at higher level when they are unlocked. If you pay $25 to unlock a top level job that starts at say level 50 to begin with, that seems to me to be a waste since your only paying for like 30 levels worth of boost and saving a lot less time than a job you need to grind up from level 1. I would have assumed different jobs would have different costs as boosts based on this kind of factor.... but nope.

It also probably doesn't need to be said, but I also wouldn't recommend unlocking a class type you have no experience with. It's nice to say "I'd like to have a tanking option" for example, but there is a reason why jobs like that tend to be underpopulated in most MMOS. If your experienced from other games it's probably not that big a deal though, but there is of course going to be a re-learning curve with every new game

Experienced players may also buy a skip on an alt character. You can be everything on a single character, but some people still want another for any number of reasons. And ive also heard of people paying for a skip for a job that starts at a higher level so they can use it for the story from the start. Overworld content may be trivialized by being 50+ levels above, but all the most important stuff happens in level-synced instances. You being a level 80ish samurai doesnt matter if the dungeon you need to clear locks you to level 18.

This only really counts for the three Ishgardian jobs (astrologian, machinist and dark knight), since you can't unlock them until you have access to the city in Heavensward. Everything else can be unlocked in the starting cities so there's no reason to pay to get it early.

The absolute most efficient use of job skips would be to buy one of the three jobs above, or an ARR job if you prefer, which will give you that job at level 80 plus immediate (or very soon) ability to do the unlock quests for RDM, SAM, GNB, DNC, SGE and RPR.
