    Crafting?

Every time I ask a question I am told to go to the Balance discord. My experiences there has been just awful, everyone talks in jargon I do not understand and when I ask what was meant, boom no reply (and onlly 1 in 5 times I get any kind of answer). Seems to be a place for those with 5-10 years playing the game with their own internal codes for things like actions. Fortunately, here that never happens!

So I have max level crafted gear on my DoH classes (CUL & ALC). I want to create a decent meld without going into pentamelding (am NOT trying to min/max). Spent a lot of time trying to absorb many of the guides, but the basic assumption of all of them is one is going to fill ever materia slot, down the the 2% chance ones!

So I kinda have a bit of a feel for doing 90 collectibles (for purple scrips to GET the materia!)... someone gave me a simple macro that I have added too for dealing with 80-90 crafts. Couple of times I have needed to go with some food I picked up around (and some I got from a FC-mate), plus I made myself some craftsman/CP which kind seems to go with what I am asking about. Base stats are 3106 craft, 2956 control, 499 CP. The theory is to pretty much fill all my available slots with Control materia, arriving at 3147 (that comes from going with the scrip frying pan, despite no materia, stats are better)/3256/499. Most of the food I've seen can have big boosts to CP, a lot of them boost control, but I think crafts is better for going all in on control.

Am I crazy here? There was a set on teamcraft that had this basic all control boosted except they went all out pentamelding 4 gear pieces... always an option later on.

Should I be looking elsewhere, I THINK this is decently reasoned way to go. The point of CUL is to make stuff that is useful for me... in crafting, gathering or combat.

you're going to want to increase control to 3180 if you want to have the minimum requirements to craft level 90 foods

Ah, interesting. Something to look at if/when I get around to doing some penta-melding. I do have some control/cp food, looks like I should make a bunch of that as well. There has been a few occasions where I had to use food to get a HQ craft to happen!

I DID try and look for data on thresholds, but got confused at the variety of somewhat conflicting data.

Yeah, if you pick up the Master recipes book (the latest one) it'll tell you the minimum craftsmanship and control required. 3180 craftsmanship and 3080 control. I personally also recommend trying to up your base CP to like 545 at least so youll be able to craft HQ more reliably.

If you're willing to casually overmeld (just using whatever white scrips you have/earn from collectibles/whatever to purchase grade 9 crafting materia without too much overthinking) Take a look at these macros and the requirements necessary, itll help you figure out what minimum threshold you need to reach base-stats wise to reliably 100% HQ stuff. I'm sure, though, that someone may be able to theorycraft something for lower/minimum stats for you. I like to give myself a LOT of wiggle room when I overmeld. I'm not fully pentamelded bc that's a lot of money and scrips spent... But I'm melded just enough to hit the requirements for being able to 100% HQ a craft with just NQ materials.

The macros I use to reliably 100% HQ:

NQ only materials, 2 star 70 dura craft: Craftsmanship: 3290, Control: 3327, CP: 655 (Food HQ Tsai Tou Vounou and HQ Cunning Craftsman Draught will bring you to that 655 mark if you're at a high enough base CP)

Do remember you can take out your materia to put back in to better gear when it comes out, and you can extract materia from your gear!

Ha, someone gave me a macro almost identical to the last one you listed... the only difference was that Groundwork before the multiple quality boosts (how come?) and the addition of the Great Strides. Extended it multiple times to takes care of various things I encountered. I only use macros now because I can never remember what sequence I used in the trial (it happens when you get to my age), PLUS I learned a bunch from looking at them!

One thing I have encountered is if it does not need all the Groundworks, I get some "cannot execute" bings at the end. One of mine actually has 4 GWs at the end! Could that be why you have one before the Prep Touch ones?

So I need to hit Ariyala & Teamcraft... to figure out a proper meld! AND can't thank you enough for taking the time!

I’ll be fully honest, don’t want to make myself out to be some sort of expert crafter ahah (That’s Caimie, who hangs around here sometimes). I have no idea if the first groundwork is necessary or not. You might be able to take it out, or take out the last Groundwork, or what have you to make it more suitable for your needs.

For the extra unnecessary groundworks at the end, I have an /echo macro with one line “/echo Macro Cancel <se.3>”. It ends macros early so I don’t get all those error messages ahah.

And definitely hit up Ariyala and Teamcraft! One thing I like to do when I’m melding is craft extra HQ Tsai Tou Vounou and eat it before i start. That way while I’m melding I can see if I’ve definitely hit the threshold required for crafts.

I'm guessing some of the food you mention simply does not show up in my Master 9 book, I guess there is some gating based on stat specs, kinda disappointing.

I've tried several code snippets to insert in macros but none of them seem to work. Not sure I ever came across what you mention ... where does it go? Is it smart enough to only cancel the macro IF there are unnecessary extra commands?

Tsai Tou Vounou is a level 89 craft! It's just the current crafters food.

As for the echo macro, it's simply a 1 line, 1 off macro. If you're done crafting something but the macro keeps going, just click the echo macro (it would be a separate macro) and it'll cancel it.
