I really don't like Emet Selch in Endwalker. It's like the Devs wanted to cash in his popularity from ShB but they turned him hokey. Can include Hythlodaeus in that as well.

They went full Kingdom Hearts with Emet and company. I suppose I can appreciate that to some degree being a KH fan and all.
Hot take - WoL had more of an emotional connection/bond/friendship/etc with Lord Haurchefant than any Scion.
Also Graha pre EW.
If each expansion we could choose who our scions are I'd choose:
Pre EW Scholar Type Graha
Wheelchair guy and Tsundere Fordola
A Redeemed Yotsuyu and her shield roe
Alphinaud
Estinien (Need batman voice always)
Emmanellain would replace Tataru
Hien would replace Thancred
Gaia
Bajsaljen
Yshtola (but only if we have the pining hrothgar as well)
I think I now realise that we have more greater connection with side characters because we learn about them and watch them grow and prob why the scions are big boring.
Savage Raids are stressful.
The scions are the worst party members in the entire mainline Final Fantasy series. Apart from the inclusion of Estinien, none of them have any noteworthy characteristics or defining moments besides nodding their heads in agreement with each other.
Furthermore, the trend in their writing reads more akin to a fanfic where the writer refuses to let anything bad or of consequence happen to their comfort characters. This has put a full stop to their character arcs and has frozen any chances of growth.
Even some of the weaker entries in the series have had moments and shocking events happen to the main cast, such as:
-Cyan watching all of Doma succumb to Kefka's poison in the water supply (FFVI)
-Celes's suicide attempt after the end of the world (FFVI)
-Tellah fully succumbing to revenge and using Meteor against Golbez at the cost of his life (FFIV)
-Garnet losing her voice after watching Alexandria be destroyed, later recovering and overcoming her guilt (FFVI)
-Hope straight up attempting to murder and get his revenge on Snow (FFXIII)
-Lightning lambasting Snow as an idiot when Serah announces her plans to marry him on her birthday (FFXIII)
-Vanille revealing to Sazh that it was her and Fang's actions that caused his son to be branded a Sanctum l'Cie (FFXIII)
-Sazh raising his gun to his head shortly after taming his eidolon (FFXIII)
-Ignis using the Ring of the Lucii to defend Noctis at the cost of his sight, quite literally burning his vision out (FFXV)
-Tidus punching and then later being comforted by Valefor after discovering that at the end of a Summoner's pilgrimage, the killing of Sin comes at the cost of a Summoner's life (FFX)
-Noctis sacrificing his life to enter the otherworld to put an end to Ardyn for good, with the last blow being dealt by the spirit of his father (FFXV)
No wonder FFXIV players love the game's villains so much. They are the only ones with anything interesting going on! The last time our party members had anything of substance happen to them was Ryne's transformation and growth arc during Shadowbringers, along with Estinien and Ysayle's arcs back in Heavensward. In Stormblood, the only characters who stuck the most out to me were Hien but more importantly Gosetsu-both stars of the Doma arc.

SE may introduce an alternative entry-point for new characters that will be after 6.0 events took place - start at level 1, short intro, go with 7.0 story forward.
WoL part ended, they did call us hard "adventurer" by the end of EW so if next expansion just treats us as adventurers then it doesn't matter if we are new ones or old ones. All of old factions or "standard but named enemies" are closed pretty much.
Yep. This is why I adore Gaia (moreso than Ryne). Her entire story is byotiful.

Estinien is great in that he doesn't just nod along with the scions and be quite individual and opinionated and will often act on what he thinks is best. He can be unpredictable and it's exciting, even moreso since we know his background.
Alphinaud is also a great character from HW to his redemption in SB. But then they just stopped after that and Alisae was a poor attempt of "I can handle myself". Like when did we ever think she was weak ?
It'd be awesome if next expansion is maybe devoted to learning about each scion and actually creating a bond rather than a somewhat forced friendship.
The time to strengthen our bonds with the scions through meaningful plot events and individual character development was the past 8 years. The less of a role they play in 7.0 the better, or we're going to end up with a Blizzard style-Sylvanas situation where we have characters who last for nearly 20 years that have nowhere to go but south, dragging everyone's patience along with them.

There is nothing more basic than a person who insists on a job appearing in XIV just because it appeared in XI or a prior title--and then trusting in the devs' omnipotence to just "make it work somehow."
Except a person who insists on having anything resembling an "elemental generalist" job. Usually it's Mystic Knight/Rune Fencer. Sometimes it's Summoner, occasionally Red Mage. Those people are even more basic. The basickest.
wow I can't believe fans of previous titles want their favorite jobs to show up in the Final Fantasy mmorpg ....There is nothing more basic than a person who insists on a job appearing in XIV just because it appeared in XI or a prior title--and then trusting in the devs' omnipotence to just "make it work somehow."
