I mean, there's the Shroud of Turin that the Vatican swears was the one used to bury Jesus but they won't let anyone touch it to actually test it for anything. All it could possibly offer anyways would be if there's any descendants but I doubt that any DNA pulled from it would be conclusive of divine origins.
We have no known basis of comparison for divine DNA anyway, so at most the result would be inconclusive.I mean, there's the Shroud of Turin that the Vatican swears was the one used to bury Jesus but they won't let anyone touch it to actually test it for anything. Old man hot take here:
It is a sin that Bard’s melee auto-attack was removed and nobody remembers it anymore. Bards used to be able to throw punches at enemies that got too close. Back in the day I punched Nael Van Darnus in the head as a Bard, pfft who needs a Monk lol.
Also I’m still bitter about losing my Conjury spells from back then too lol, but that’s a much spicier take about what Bards should be.
I think it's not that spicy.
A lot of BRD players want SE to play more into the supporter class fantasy again. When you look at what Bards traditionally are in other games, they've always heavily leaned into support and FFXIV did it once as well and attracted the kind of players that are neither into actual healers nor pure dps. And the other side, that just wants a dedicated all out bow pewpew dps is also unhappy because BRD just... isn't that. Think more of Sniper, Hunter, Zen Archer etc.
BRD is just neither and people from both sides are displeased.
Sadly we have to blame that on the 1.x players. They complained that BRD didn't do DPS, and wanted it to do damage. SE listened...and it led to BRD being what it is.I think it's not that spicy.

From what I remember it was around the alpha or early beta SE decided to take Bard (well Archer lol since it capped at level 15 in the one and only dungeon) the ‘dps’ direction instead of support. In that old version of Bard it has a ton of support; in particular most of its archery inflicted status ailments on the enemy rather than the pure DoT focus we have now (though I think Venomous Bite was still there). That’s not covering additions support through healing, the occasional Protect / Stoneskin if someone died or whatever, and even Raise which couldn’t be used in battle.
Then as you say, it was received extremely poorly for one reason or another (the animations were for Archer/Bard were so poorly received they had to redo them all by decoupling top and bottom on character models lol),and quickly swapped out for the DoT focused, pure physical, Lancer/Pugilist cross-classing Archer that we have today. I mean it’s not like I desperately hate the version we have now but I still miss the old version(s) lol. Now there’s nowhere to escape if you don’t want to be a pure dps lol

Dragoon has too many damage boosting abilities that just adds to its buttom bloat.
