1) Limit Break is a boring and uninspired system for anyone but healers.

2) XIV still suffers from a bad interface design, even after all the improvements we got ever since ARR.

3) The idea behind soulstones just serves to make the lore unecessarily convoluted for roleplayers.

The forums suck and are overwhelmingly negative, no matter what. And it blows everything out of proportion. Everyone outside of the official forums on other platforms usually think the exact opposite of whatever is posted here.

The in-game community is growing a wee bit more less friendly as the population has grown.

The official forums is one of the few places where people can freely discuss the shortcomings of the game. Other platforms, like the FFXIV reddit page, will take measures to censor criticism. For example, if this thread were created on the FFXIV reddit page, it would be deleted pretty quickly.

Definitely, and while there is negativity people tend to take time to write detailed comments, something you'd rarely find on other forums for a game of similar scale. The FFXIV reddit is actually one of the few subreddits I dislike, between the bad memes, endless fan arts and very sparce discussions about the game itself.

If only it was well-rounded criticism here. It isn't. It's rounded towards negativity and that's it. But almost every video game forum is like that.

And yes, this thread would likely be deleted on the FFXIV sub because it doesn't add anything constructive. It's nearly 30 pages of crapping on the game. I've seen some great discussions on Reddit, Discord, social media and various websites and blogs about the game. Opinion are varied across them all. It's not all positive and it's not all negative. Especially Reddit where there are a number of subs dedicated to video games, RPGs and a main one dedicated to MMOs. The MMO subreddit is worse than the forums in that they crap all over every MMO, no matter which one it is. So, if you think they don't go after FFXIV then you clearly have never been there.

But even in that sub the opinions are more well-rounded than the forums, which is usually just tearing the game down. Mostly over stuff that players straight up don't understand. I am still convinced that the majority of people that post on the forums did not understand the story of EW at all and I will die on that hill. The few that have legitimate criticisms I tip my hat to because their posts are more constructive.

Then there are just trolls but they've always been around and always will be.

I skipped the entire story of FFXIV. I have not watched a single cutscene. I don’t know what I’m fighting for, all I know is I look good doing it while the NPC’s sit back and make me do everything.

I have no idea what a Y’shtola is or why everyone’s obsessed with it (I assume it’s like baby Yoda).

And I can’t stand the fact that 2b boots gives my character clown feet.

This is such a one-sided view of everything that happens on these forums. Honestly, this is just the whole "your criticism isn't constructive" debate again. It's the same argument that people use to defend the game: by gatekeeping the term "constructive criticism."

You cherrypicked one person's post where they said they skipped the entire story and now you say: "but this to me is the 99% of the forums." How is anyone here going to take you seriously now after seeing you make such a sweeping generalization?

i've been here since 2013 as well and it was bad on the forums then, too.

i think reasonable attempts to moderate the more pointlessly cruel/racist/sexist/etc stuff is all that's needed although i do wish people would stop approaching everything like an argument or a fight to be won. every few posts i find myself responding to someone with "I already said I agreed with you, why are you making this into a fight" and they always back down and say "Oh I'm not fighting" or something but then mysteriously stop replying.

I think every official game forums is like that. I remember it was the same in WoW's and GW2.

A very common occurence is player X that thrashes about about every aspect of the game, and I usually think what greater power keeps this person subbed to a game that apparently have no joy playing?
