So ELO is just a sorting algorithm, and outside of people who just thought about doing a little joking around, I do wonder what the serious types consider the input data to be.

They don't have a system, the trust NPCs have programmed behavior. Every Trust NPC has to be scripted to handle every mechanic of every boss in a specific way in each dungeon. Doing that for a couple dungeons is fine but when you have to do the entirety of ARR plus the Expansions? That's a lot of work that could be spent on a new ultimate or a new unreal or even just a new dungeon.Well I was thinking maybe with the right rework Hall of Novice might instill better habits to at least not do stupid things. Establish a floor. I think expecting stricter rotation adherence is a different floor for a different level of play, but I don't think failing rotations is what causes widespread player frustration so much as players literally not doing their jobs. At least as far as tanks and healers go, merely doing their jobs is *mostly* DPS-independent so I wouldn't care much about them executing the latest rotation outside of Savage-level content. That still leaves DPS, but I feel like a tutorial could at least provide them *some* kind of rotation framework that, while perhaps not optimal, would prevent them from sucking too hard.
All that said, you are right about the MSQ queue populating problem. That is a flaw in a tiered design. HOWEVER, if I may put forth another idea that I and others have proposed elsewhere: just have a back-up trust/squandrons system for players to queue into. I've always felt that this should be outright implemented for Prae/Castrum and just eliminate MSQ roulette altogether, but why stop there if they already have a good trust system? I feel like *every* MSQ piece of content should be soloable in the event a player cannot find party members--the key being not allowing players to *elect* for these roulette trusts, just giving them the luck of the draw based on available queuers.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Its the last name of the guy who came up with the system. ELO means literally nothing.
Its the same type of data input that is used for something like FFLogs to determine your ranking parse on relevant content. So things like, up time/activity, output of damage and heals; but with things like PvP it typically is just win ratio.

This I don't know. The problem is that people exaggerate to such a degree that it's difficult for me to make out what they are precisely frustrated about. Sometimes it sounds like they're describing people who don't know how to press buttons, which is not something I imagine is actually happening. Sometimes they seem to complain about a person not having a smooth time with their GCD which... I'd say is normal, and I think expecting everyone to perfectly run their GCD with all the weaves is not reasonable. Sometimes people are unhappy about something that feels very esoteric to me, like not knowing you could read buffs on bosses to get mechanics tips.
Players not doing their jobs is a weird one. I wonder how much of this contingent is players new to MMOs, or players who come from other MMOs, and kind of never really getting the memo. For a lot of people, DPSing as a healer is really weird and wrong. It felt wrong to me at first. Tanking in many games is body pull based, which makes it very important for the tank to pull first, and AoE is meh for threat generation some games as opposed to specialized threat attacks or gathering debuffs. So some people may be coming from habits developed in other games that are very important to them, and coming here, and some players are unhappy with them, and they may very well think you're bad just like you think they're bad.
GCD weaving is very, very strange coming from other games, and a lot of people won't be expecting it given the game is described as this super slow 2.5 GCD game. In most MMOs, GCD is what you use, and there's not much outside the GCD. FF is like "there's GCD, but here's all this other stuff that may be way faster than GCD oh also there's this odd animation lock crap that has a strange relationship with lag". I legit didn't realize the point of that first jump ability you get as Dragoon for a while because it never struck me that any ability could be off GCD like that. To my old-school brain, GCD is king and nothing is outside it. And the ability tooltips say nothing about this.
It's this sort of thing that the Hall of the Novice should be taking care of. The only thing the current HoN accomplishes is introducing the person to the Holy Trinity, and teaching how to use Overpower. I'd argue these are not as minor as many might think, but we could do with more.
I feel the OP would rather gate when you try and log into the game. username.. password.. gaming resume. The resume could be forwarded to the OP's elite team of gamers to see if they would be allowed to log in and play. the "lucky" ones would get to play with the OP.. the rest, diverted to Hello Kitty or something...
I think for me... this kind of bs rating system in a pve game is.. a hard no.
Way to downplay it despite it being explained already. It’s not about the people who don’t optimize. It’s about the people that barely participate. Those who single target 1,2,3 their way through 6 mob pulls. Not the onesTryin to top their dps on a parser. You know it as it’s already been said in this thread. Way to be disingenuous

Nowhere did I even say I was elite anywhere. Just wanting better skill matchups for parties.
Wish there was a quantifiable way to remove people like you from the game, that would make it very enjoyable.
