Would you give up job gear to have more gearsets elsewhere?

With every new job, the amount of job-specific gearsets also increases for each expansion. There are also the crafter and gatherer jobs which, while not increasing in number, are rarely used for glamour when all the classes share gear. And many of the battle job sets just seem to be slight variations on the same theme again.

Would you forgo job-specific sets if it meant they could put those modelling resources into more unique dungeon gearsets instead? Or use it somewhere else?

Or perhaps phase it out, at least. ARR jobs have had five unique sets now, but the newer jobs haven't had so many yet, so maybe they could still get some more sets.

(I considered posting this to the live letter Q&A thread, but I thought it might be controversial and wanted to gauge people's thoughts.)

If we are speaking of AF sets, then I'm on the fence. Sometimes I only play one job out of a role and those AF pieces make up a big part of that glamour. Not super sure how much workload goes into AF sets given we only receive one per job every two years vs how many sets come up in the meantime. They are also often used as your first capped set, so it would need to be replaced by something else.

I can see the benefit of allocating resources from making the job specific gear to other gear, but I also like bits a pieces from some of the sets and use them on my main for that role usually.

It's really not something I've really thought too much about, but I kind of like having those sets still because some are just excellent pieces(level 70 PLD set dyed black is still my favourite PLD set, but I also use other pieces from other PLD sets with it from time to time)

I don't feel like it's too much of an ask to just hire more artists so we're not sacrificing one thing for another.

Relic armor sets... defnitely no. They are subjectively really good and versatile items that expand on the job fantasy.

I don't think we'd ever get what Dancers have for relic sets outside of the Dancer job, for example.

I personally never use one of those sets fully, but their individual pieces make up for most of my glamour plates.

Yes and no? I like the AF gear sets, but it definitely screws with shared gearsets when glamouring stuff. If I put the SGE or SCH AF gear as a glamour for those jobs, and then tried to switch to WHM without being in a sanctuary hub (where glamour plates work), I would switch jobs and find myself with no gear equipped (due to the restrictions on gear you use as a glamour carrying over).

What I'd love is if you leveled all of a given 'gear type' to cap, you'd get the ability to equip the AF gear at least within that gear type up to the previous expansion.

So if you had both SAM and MNK to 90, you could use the level 80 (or lower) SAM and MNK AF sets in general Striking gearset glamours. If you had WHM, SCH, AST, and SGE to 90, you could use the level 80 (or lower) AF sets for general Healing gearsets. Etc. You could explain it by "since you have mastered all of these jobs, you know how to use bits of knowledge from one on the other", and thus you can use bits of the other jobs' AF gear. That would open up new glamour possibilities for combining those sets -- thus, making the resources not 'wasted' compared to making more general sets for the given job -- while still keeping them unique to the specific job they're for while their expansion is current. And it would be a perk to leveling everything within a given gearset type, as well.

(And it foregoes the usual "what if a dancer wanted to equip Paladin armor?!" objection, since only another tank would be able to use the PLD armor.)

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

No AF gearsets should stay, I would very much disagree with their removal. I'm speaking only of combat classes though, I'm more flexible on crafter AF sets cuz this is the first FF entry to have AF gear designated for them, if crafters want to keep them though i wouldn't be opposed to it either but removal of AF gear for combat classes is non-negotiable for me personally speaking*.

*Speaking as a psychopath (lol) who has played every Final Fantasy minus the Crystal Chronicles entries after the initial FF:CC title, as well as skipping FFXV: A New Empire and All the Bravest and the JP exclusive mobile games like FFXI: Grandmasters

No. It's the only themed gear for jobs that we have.

I feel like they should retain the job gear and just compensate by reducing the unique gearsets from crafted or from dungeons. Arguably for me there's a lot more substance in the AF gearsets than there are in the dungeon or crafted gear. Provided they can maintain keeping raid gear unique then I think that's enough.

The main thing really is that they stay within the theme of the encounter/story for the gear.

That being said, by recycling the gear they're able to make the respective gears a lot more obtainable. Some of the dungeon gears, especially the ones at 50/60/70/80 can be a real nightmare to get, so this is just nice.

I would give them up in a heartbeat, in fact I don't really care about them at all.
No matter how nice they look, this game doesn't really have space for a different glamour for each job, so I only make glams that can work on that gearset on every class that uses it.
Dragoon was an exception so I could use that, but now even that one is shared so no more drg-specific sets, whcih is a shame because this expansion's one is nice. Ninja is the only one left I guess, but I never liked its AFs.

Until they give us a more flexible glamor system, AF is pointless imho.
